Laurence William
of Ladner, B.C was born September 20, 1933. He was the son of Cecil (Al) Edward Manning and Marjorie Pearl (Harris) Manning. Laurence is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Manning of Ladner and their three children, Marilee Manning of Kamloops, BC, Tracy Murdoch and her husband, Douglas of Walhachin, BC and Robyn Manning of Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by a brother Alan Manning, of Ponoka, Alberta and a sister Lita Munro of Ladner, BC; grandchildren: Cristalee Brinkworth and her husband, Teague of Kamloops, BC, Brandon Murdoch and his wife Crystal of Ottawa, Ontario and Aleesha Murdock of Creston, BC; great granddaughters Mikayla and Amber. Laurence was predeceased by his sister, Marcia MacInnes of Oyama, BC and his brother Keith Manning of Point Roberts, Wash. In his life time, Laurence drew his income from welding, farming (both dairy and crop) and applying his entrepreneurial bent in various ventures. In his welding career, Laurence welded on various pipelines including the famous TransCanada Pipeline. Dairy farming began in 1963. His first farm was the Benson farm at 44th Ave in Ladner where he milked 60 head of cattle. In 1967 Laurence finally convinced the Royal Bank of Canada to loan him start up money to purchase the Pybus farm located at 5290 64th Street which remains Laurence & Liz's farm and residence to this day; with a brief interlude in Eckville, Alberta, milking 100 head of cattle, and in Walhachin, BC where he was in business with his daughter Tracy and her husband, Doug, growing alfalfa and ginseng. He did enjoy many loves, among his most favorites: hunting, fishing, boating and most particularly fine woodworking in which he increasingly excelled at to the happy benefit of his daughters and grandchildren. Laurence passed away on October 17, 2010 at Surrey Memorial Hospital after struggling all summer with an undiagnosed sickness in his lungs. Just two very short days before he passed away, Laurence was confirmed as having an aggressive and inoperable lung cancer.
