LAURENT COTE Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Nov. 24, 2012.
Laurent (Lawrence) Joseph CÔTÉ
Lawrence passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 85. He was born to Hormidas and Eva Côté on a farm near Delmas, Saskatchewan on January 13, 1927. During his youth he and his family moved to Manchester, New Hampshire where he attended school and worked after school at a hosiery factory during WWII. He would proudly state that they shipped hosiery to actor Eddie Cantor's wife. He and his family returned to Saskatchewan to live on the farm in Delmas and he completed his grade 8 schooling at Tulip School (Delmas). He continued working on various farms for family and friends. He moved to Fannystelle, Manitoba where he worked as a farm hand. He would state he was teaching Quebecer's how to drive a tractor. He returned to Saskatchewan only to leave again and go with his best friend Henry Deslauriers to work in Grand Prairie, Alberta in a bush camp, logging. During the winter he worked and saved enough money to buy his own land. He moved to North Battleford and worked as a salesman delivering bread for Canadian Bakeries (4X). In 1960 he transferred to Saskatoon for McGavin's Bakery where he met his beloved wife Anna. They were married in 1962 and together raised three sons, Bruce, Murray and Robert. Lawrence worked for McGavin's for thirty-eight years and retired at age 63. Lawrence enjoyed life and lived each day to the fullest. He enjoyed gardening, travelling with Anna and entertaining friends and family at his home. You were always sure to receive great hospitality and a good laugh when you had a visit with Lawrence. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Anna Côté; sons, Bruce Côté; Murray (Tiffany) Côté and granddaughter, Natalie; Robert (Bonnie) Côté and grandchildren, Mirissa and Dawson; sisters, Alice Douville, Noella Sayers; brother, Jean Paul Côté; sisters in law, June, Yvonne and Ella Côté. He was predeceased by his parents, Eva Marie and Hormidas Côté; sisters, Simone (Wilbrod) Lessard, Blanche (Charles) Leroux and Yvonne (Victor) Carpentier; brothers, Ferdinand, George (died in WWII), Adrian and Leo (Bernadette) Côté. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
