Laurie Baker (Bremer), age 61, passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2018 after a brief struggle with COPD. Laurie was born on April 20, 1956 in Spokane, WA as the daughter of Nancy Donelson (Springer) and Richard Bremer.
Laurie (a true Spokane girl) attended Finch Elementary School, Glover Middle School and Shadle Park High School. Laurie grew up loving to spend time with her sisters, Vickie and Suzie, and the three “Bremer” girls were inseparable and partners in crime. It became apparent at an early age that good athleticism ran in Laurie’s genes, her Dad being an outstanding baseball player and Mom a collegiate diver at the University of Washington, as Laurie grew into a world class gymnast. She carried the torch at the National Junior Olympics in 1972. While at Shadle Park High School, she won the state high school all-around gymnastics title in 1972 and was also named the Inland Empire Woman Athlete of the Year (youngest athlete to win this title). She attended Southern Illinois University in 1974 on a full ride gymnastics scholarship and was one of only a dozen female athletes (nationwide) to receive this honor. Unfortunately, her gymnastics career ended after a serious knee injury at the Olympic Trials in 1975.
Driven to stay involved with the sport, Laurie went to work for AMF’s sports equipment division and she traveled the world helping promote the sport and sell AMF’s gym equipment. She returned to Spokane in 1977 to join her Mom and sisters in the family business, Best Line Answering Service in downtown Spokane. Working alongside her sisters and having the three girls back together brought Laurie so much joy. Laurie shared the same silly sense of humor and pizzazz for life with her sisters and so the numerous office practical jokes, coordinated Halloween costumes, and years of working together were some of her favorite times.
Laurie married Barry Baker in 1984 (divorced in 2004) and they had three kids together. Brooke (Steve Spink) (31), Bubba (25), and Bailey (22). Laurie is survived by her three children, her son in law Steve, sisters Vickie and Suzie, brother in laws Terry and Chris, and nephews Kyle, Kevin, and Blake. Family was important to Laurie and she loved spending time with them in the sun, listening to music, and just being together and laughing.
Those that knew Laurie always appreciated her witty sense of humor and her ability to make those around her feel special and loved. She was known for her generosity and kindness to all who knew her and to say she will be missed is a grave understatement.
The family wishes to invite all who would like to attend her memorial service which will be held on Friday, March 23rd at 3:00pm at the Bing Crosby Theater (901 W. Sprague Avenue, Spokane, WA 99201) followed by a celebration of life at the Pavilion Room at Northern Quest Resort and Casino (100 N. Hayford Road, Airway Heights, WA 99001) at 4:30pm.

Sweet beautiful Laurie, there have been so many times I have thought of you this past year. I still miss you so much as do all of your children. It is not easy trying to figure out how to be without your Momma. Vickie and I still talk of you and love you more and more. I hope you are having a blast in heaven! I'm certain that it is a happier place with your sense of humor up there. You make everyone smile that crosses your path. Love you, Debbie

Laurie, you were my gymnastics team leader, my hero and role model. I have thought of you often through the years and still have a few sketches I made of you on the balance beam.
My love and condolences to your family. Keep shining.

So sad to lose such a great person so young. She always made me laugh in Russian class. I had to look at the 74 year book. Laugh. She signed all 12 of her photos. She was and is a Star. Rest well Laurie.

My heart goes out to you Vickie, Suzie, Brooke, Bubba and Bailey for the loss of your beloved Sister and Mom. I was so sadden to read of the news today of her passing. Though I only knew her in High School I remember her as having a bubbly and bright personality. I loved to watch her cheer at the games our Sophmore year and she was such an awesome gymnast. She was so graceful with such precision on the beam, and unbelievable as she flew on the bars, even with tore up hands- and her floor ex. with her flips and speed were beyond comparison. In my book -she was as good as any who've won the Olympic gold! Please know she will never be forgotten!

Laurie, may God hold you in the palm of his hands and continue to balance you as you jump from cloud to cloud. May you find no Rainbow to high to hurdle. Thank you for the early years of friendship and laughs. May you now watch over your children and protect them ever more.

Dear Vickie,Susie,Brooke,Bubba and Bailey-
Was so sorry to hear the news of your beloved sister and Mom's passing today. Though I only had the privilege of knowing her through High School- I still remember her bright and bubbly personality. And as if it were yesterday- I can picture her precision and beauty on the balance beam -of her sailing skillfully on the uneven- and flying effortlessly over the mats in her floor ex. To me- her routines were just as good as any who've won the Olympic Gold. Laurie- you've soured to new heights now- and we all will miss your sweet spirit down here. My heart goes out to you all -may the Lord comfort and hold you close

To our beautiful Laurie:
We mourn for our loss of you, we miss you because things just don't seem right without you, and we miss your smile, your warmth, and your funny personality. When you, Vickie, Pam and I would play togther as little children, you and I alway seemed to team up as did Vickie and Pam. We were buddies! I have always treasured any time I could spend with you and Vickie. We always laughed so much and had so much fun. As we all grew older, and had children of our own, it was so fun to all get togther with all our kids. I will always miss you and love you.
