Leonard Friedberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2014.
FRIEDBERG, Leonard Leonard Louis Friedberg, age 97, a native of Atlanta, died February 15, 2014. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Sylvia Friedberg; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Nancy Friedberg; Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Andrea Friedberg, Philadelphia; grandchildren: Mandy Katz, Jenni (Brian) Swenson-Friedberg, Andy Friedberg, Jess (Doug) Smith and Alli Friedberg; great grandchildren: Olivia, Simone, Jillian, Noah, and Joshua. Mr. Friedberg was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Segal, of blessed memory. Mr. Friedberg was a graduate of Boy's High School and was gainfully employed in retail and merchandising until his retirement well into his eighties. He was a veteran of the US Army and served as a drill instructor at West Point (and at home according to Howard and Steve.) He was the ultimate provider to his family and instilled in all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that each should do their very best in order to ultimately achieve whatever they conceived. His self discipline was unparalleled and he always functioned with an eye toward perfection in all that he did, whether at home, work or play. He was always dressed impeccably and devoted the last eight years to Sylvia's care and wellbeing as she has been nonambulatory. Although he never completed college, he was the smartest person in the family among teachers, lawyers, doctors and dentists and never lost to anyone at either jeopardy or double jeopardy. Until his eyes began failing, he was a voracious reader of all media and read the newspaper from front to back every day and would actively engage others in both past and present world events. He enjoyed watching Westerns and the History and Military channels. He can never be replaced but will live on in the memories of each of his family members.
