Our loving mother, LaVerne Moore Goforth,94, sadly passed away on May 18, 2024 in Franklin, Tennessee. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends in the communities where she lived.

She was born in rural Lamar County, Alabama on December 4, 1929. She moved to Aberdeen, Mississippi her senior year in high school. While living in Aberdeen she was baptized at First Baptist Church, married, and raised her two children. Later she moved to Columbus, Mississippi where she worked for many years for the Mississippi University for Women, retiring in 1994. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Columbus and continued to maintain her membership there. Later in life she moved to be near her daughter in Ridgeland, Mississippi; Atlanta, Georgia; and finally in Franklin, Tennessee.



LaVerne was predeceased by her parents, Belton and Esther Williams Moore and her sister, Edna Faye Moore Gordon Ridings. She is survived by her daughter Anita Goforth Alexander (Thomas), son Philip Goforth, six grandchildren, Adam Goforth (Kendra), Laura Knisely (Nathan), Leslie Hoback (Joe), Brian Alexander (Kate), Austin Alexander, Katie Alexander Smith (Nate); and seven great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Mississippi on May 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS.
