LaVon Neveau Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2023.
LaVon Sproat Neveau was born on February 11, 1924, and she left this world on May 9, 2023. She lived to 99 years, and not 100, as she clearly told her family she would not do! Anyone who knew LaVon knew that she was a force, and the world is just a little less without her. But 99 years were enough for her, and she left us on her own terms...off to her next big adventure.

Born to Christopher and Cora Sproat in Ogden, Utah, LaVon's family moved to the Bay Area of California when she was young. It was there LaVon would call home for the rest of her life, but she was truly a citizen of the world. LaVon accomplished her goal of visiting every continent on Earth with a trip to Antarctica, and she returned to some of her favorite places many times. Traveling was a joy for LaVon for the history, culture, sites and adventures but mostly for the company. Traveling offered precious time with loved ones, initially with her husband and young family and, later in life, with dear friends, her adult children and even her grandchildren.

LaVon was proud of so many things in her life. She adored her parents. She spoke often of her career accomplishments, both before she married and then later in life. Her career with Kelly Services and her work to help advance opportunities for women have been highlighted by many. Her political service and time serving on the Alameda County grand jury brought her great rewards as well. But the thing she was most proud of was the family she created with her husband, Tom. Bragging on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a favorite pastime, and in her eyes, they could do no wrong.

LaVon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; her daughter, Robin; and her daughters-in law, Barbara and Anamarie.

She is survived by her sons, Tom and Mark (Sandra); her grandchildren Tommy (Christy), Denise (Nicole), Shannon (TJ), Shane (Monica), Chad (Jessica), Whitney (Danny) and Logan; and her great-grandchildren Megan (Joe), Bryanna, Tommy (Loren), Giovanni, Alice, Preston, Declan, Graycen, Graham and Caleb.

LaVon's family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony, as per her wishes. We all thank everyone so much for the kind messages of love and support. Anyone wishing to honor LaVon's memory may do so with donations to the "V" Foundation for Cancer Research.
