It is with our deepest heartfelt sadness and sorrow to announce the unexpected passing of our handsome beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, compadre and friend, Lawrence Cabrera, whom entered eternal life on Friday, February 17, 2023, in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 62. Lawrence was born to Pedro (Pete) and Sally Cabrera on December 4, 1960 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
He graduated from Mayfield High School in 1978. He then attended Western New Mexico on a Baseball Scholarship where he received an associates degree. He attended a school for welding in Louisiana where he learned his loved profession. He worked for Chino Mines for many years, which later became Freeport McMoran. He welded there for many years, moved to Las Vegas, NV for 7 years, where he helped construct City Center and McCarren International Airport's, 3rd terminal. He then returned back to Freeport and later became a Supervisor. He then transferred to El Paso, TX to the Freeport McMoran Refinery as a supervisor. During his whole career, he owned his company, Copperhead Co.
He loved all sports, and had many accomplishments which includes basketball, baseball, and golf. He was a dedicated New Orleans Saints fan. He really enjoyed being a referee, golfing, and prided himself as a You-Tube Mechanic. He enjoyed his Budweiser and his favorite saying was “Party like a rockstar, all night long”.
He met his Wife, Suzanne, in 2002 when the mine had a lay off. They met at the unemployment office where she worked at that time. They became very, very good friends in which he would always keep in touch with her. He then moved to Las Vegas and still kept in contact with her. He then returned to Silver City in 2011. In 2012 (ten years later as he would say), he contacted his wife and they got together then. From then on, they were inseparable. They did everything together, went everywhere together, never did anything without each-other. He would say “if you don't go, I don't go” or vice versa. They were madly, deeply and truly in love. Anywhere they went, they were hand in hand. He always held her hand no matter what. She was the love of his life as well as he was hers. His saying for them was “together forever”, They then married on February 14th 2020 on Valentines Day in Las Vegas, NV. They had just celebrated their 3rd anniversary. They knew each-other for 21 years, been together for 11 years and married for 3 years.
He loved his family deeply, each and everyone of them, and also loved all his friends for which he had many. He always talked about his family and friends, the good and the bad times he had with them all.
He is survived by his loving wife Suzanne Jimenez Cabrera, mother Sally Cabrera, of Las Cruces, NM brother, Sam Cabrera, of Las Cruces, NM, sisters Laura Cabrera Cortez (Marcus Cortez) of Rock Island, IL, Sylvia Cabrera (Anthony Banegas) of Las Cruces, NM and Vanessa Cabrera (Onel (compa) R Moises) of Las Vegas, NV.
He is proceeded in death by his father Pedro (Pete) Cabrera.
