NAPLES, Fla. — Lawrence L. "Larry" Christian, 67, of Naples, Fla., died February 28, 2009. Born April 11, 1941 in Princeton, W.Va., he was the son of Clarence C. Christian, Jr., a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, and Hallie Mae Shupe Christian, a schoolteacher.Larry graduated from Princeton High School where he played football and basketball and ran track. He graduated from West Virginia University, where he majored in political science and was a member of the WVU golf team and Sigma Nu fraternity. Before moving to Naples in 1986, he resided in Morgantown, W.Va., where for many years, he led the singing of the national anthem at all the home basketball games. Larry retired from the New York Life Insurance Company following a 40 year career. An executive member of the West Virginia Golf Association, he organized Junior Golf in West Virginia and still holds the course record at Lakeview Country Club in Morgantown, W.Va., shooting a 68 in 1980. He enjoyed playing golf at Vineyard Country Club and Bonita Bay in Naples. During his golf career, he had the pleasure of playing rounds with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Sam Snead.Larry is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie Beulike Christian, a teacher at Barron Collier High School in Naples; his sons, Shawn Neal Christian of Alexandria, Va., Christopher Lee Christian of Telluride, Colo., and Andrew Carr Christian of Naples, Fla.; daughters, Allison Leah Christian of Tampa, Fla., and Adriane Lee Christian of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Lynnsee Lee Christian, Chase Lawrence Christian and Leanna Lee Christian; his brother, Dr. Wayne Christian of Charleston, W.Va.; three nieces and one nephew.A memorial service celebrating Larry's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, Fla.
