CHARLOTTE - The Rev. Lawrence Calvin Evans Jr. of Charlotte departed this life on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Rev. Evans served as pastor of Mowing Glade AME Zion Church in Charlotte. He was also employed as manager for Family Support Services. He was a graduate of Barber-Scotia College in Concord and Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury. He was an active member of the Phi Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He leaves to cherish his memory of his loving wife, Betty; daughter, Ashley; son, Jamahl (Gretta); sister, Alpha Jordan; one nephew, Akida; loving mother-in-law, Laura Porter; aunt, Frances Phillips; uncles, Franklin Evans, Jerome Evans (Naomi) and Sandy Jones (Queen); and two very special brothers, Kermit E. Waddell and Gary Oliver; and extended family, Father in Ministry, the Rev. Dr. Jewett Walker. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Kitty Sanson Chapel, Barber-Scotia College. Quiet hour will begin at noon. The body will lie in state from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at his church, Mowing Glade AME Zion Church, 8951 Albemarle Road, Charlotte. Walker Funeral Home is serving the Evans family.
