Ellendale, N.D. - Lawrence O. Iverson was born March 31, 1923 to Carl and Mary (Hajek) Iverson in Glover, N.D. Lawrence attended school in rural Glover. He helped on the farm until he went into the United States Army in 1943. He was in Signal Air Warning. Lawrence served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After he returned home, he worked for his cousin Louie Rehovsky running his hammer mill. Later, Lawrence bought the hammer mill and ran it for several years. In 1956 Lawrence went to Washington to work returning to North Dakota in 1957. Lawrence married Esther Grueneich July 24, 1958 in Webster, S.D. They lived in Oakes until 1960 when they moved to Ellendale where he operated the Texaco Station for 12 years. Lawrence drove the school bus for 26 years and in 1972 started working at the ASCS office and selling Watkins Feed. Esther died on August 20, 1977. On August 25, 1984 Lawrence married Lavina Ford. They did upholstery and refinishing furniture until 1987 when Lawrence retired. Lawrence was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Ellendale the V.F.W. and American Legion, Herman-Schlinker Post #137. He enjoyed gardening, crafts and collecting antiques. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Lawrence died April 17, 2003 at his home in Ellendale. Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife Lavina Iverson, Ellendale, N.D.; one son and daughter-in-law: Steve & Lisa Iverson, Hatton, N.D.; one daughter and son-in-law: Vicki & Rick Hack, Ellendale, N.D.; six grandchildren; three step-sons and daughters in-law: Jack & Lynn Oberlander, Douglas, Wyo., Alan & Sue Oberlander, Watertown, S.D., Dan & Romona Oberlander, Isanti, Minn.; eight step-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Earl & Betty Iverson, Spokane, Wash., Ernest & Marge Iverson, Fargo, N.D., Arvid & Theresa Ivrson, Hermiston, Ore.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Inez & Dick Hample, Oakes, N.D., Shirley & Phil Davis, Jamestown, N.D., Sue Waganer, Fargo, N.D. and many nephews and nieces. Lawrence was preceded in death by five brothers: Oscar, Charles, Carl, Donald, Gerald and two sisters: Carroll and Evelyn.
