Lawrence Kennedy Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2025.
Lawrence Charles Kennedy Jr., affectionately known as "Larry," passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025 in South San Francisco, California at the age of 87 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on February 21, 1938, at Children's Hospital in San Francisco to parents Lawrence C. Kennedy Sr. and Cecilia E. Kennedy, he leaves behind a lasting legacy defined by deep family devotion, genuine kindness, and joyous laughter. Larry's life was shaped by his unwavering dedication and love for family and friends. On January 25, 1958, Larry married Joyce M. Kennedy, the love of his life. Together, they shared a beautiful, enduring marriage of 67 years filled with endless laughter and precious memories. Their love brought three wonderful sons, Steven R. Kennedy, David A Kennedy and Richard C Kennedy into the world. Following his passion for electrical work, Larry began his proud and storied career with the IBEW Local 617 in 1956 as an apprentice. He dedicated 46 years to the union, serving as a NECA representative and a Chairman on the Electrical Apprenticeship Committee, shaping and mentoring generations of future electricians. In 1966, Larry and his brother Gerald courageously opened DC Electric Inc., a successful union contracting business that thrived until his retirement in 2002. Outside of his profession, Larry was known for his intoxicating sense of humor, kindness, and generous heart. He was a remarkable family patriarch, always nurturing and guiding with warmth and affection. Larry's greatest joy was spending time with his beloved grandchildren, Paul, David Jr., Brena, Mollie and Kelley as well as his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He frequently took them on unforgettable trips boating at Clearlake in the early years then Lake Berryessa, patiently teaching each child to water ski as well as tubing, and experience always coupled with good laughs and cherished memories. Larry also proudly maintained the vital responsibility of ensuring his grandchildren's ice cream cones were safe from "poison" tasting each one, creating and endearing family tradition that will live on forever. A man of many hobbies and passions, Larry enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing with the kids, and proudly supporting his beloved San Francisco 49ers. His enthusiastic presence as "Santa Clause" at family Christmas parties, singing karaoke at Val's Redwood Room, and socializing with friends and fellow Elk Lodge and California Golf and Country Club members embodied his vibrant spirit and zest for life. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Cecelia Kennedy. He will be forever cherished by those he leaves behind: his devoted wife Joyce, sons Steven, David, and Richard, siblings Pat Mc Donough, Gerald Kennedy, Michael Kennedy and Christine Hatton, grandchildren Paul, David Jr., Brena, Mollie, Kelley and many nieces and nephews and great grandchildren as well as dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held, Tuesday August 5th, 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church located at 60 Wellington Avenue, Daly City California, 94014. Our family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to everyone who has touched Larry's life or been touched by him, your presence made his life truly rich and meaningful. He was a bright light whose laughter, kindness and warmth will live forever in our hearts.

So sorry to hear Larry has passed away. He was one of my favorite customers at the Bank. He would sit at my desk and we would talk and he would tell me stories. My condolences to Joyce and family.
