Lawrence D. "Larry" Smyth of Delran passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was 78 years old. He was born on November 8, 1944 in Philadelphia and moved to Delran in 1973. Larry worked for Verizon for 42 years, retiring as a supervisor, and then worked for 10 years at Bevco.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  He enjoyed a cold Schaefer beer now and then, and his summer days on the beach in Stone Harbor, NJ.  He dearly loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandsons, and was their number one sports fan.  He was especially proud of teaching them to drive.

Beloved husband of Joanna Smyth (nee Panzera), married 53 years on the day he passed away; loving father of Jessica (Frank) Schreader, and Larry (Beth) Smyth; cherished grandfather of Nick and Aidan Schreader, and Ryan and Justin Smyth; dear brother of James Smyth (the late James Rodgers), his twin brother Dennis Smyth, and the late John Smyth (Jean); brother-in-law of Phyllis (the late Burt) Howell, Dolores (James) Quartarone and Maria (the late George) Barrett.  Larry is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Larry will be private.  Donations in his memory can be made to the Food Bank of South Jersey (1501 John Tipton Blvd, Pennsauken, NJ 08110 -- www,foodbanksj.org), or the American Heart Association (1617 JFK Blvd, Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103 -- www.heart.org).

Can't believe a year has gone by already. Even though I no longer saw Larry on an everyday basis for the past 4 years, I’ve thought of him often, especially at Christmas when I was putting out my pain in the butt candy canes, I would say “If you come out and see them in the middle of Tenby Chase Drive, don’t be surprised!” I would always put my stuff out early since I’d say I’m not being out here freezing my butt off. He’d always say I’ll get them up!
Thinking of you Joann, Jess & Larry and the rest of your Family on this Hard Day of Remembrance.

Larry was one of the true telephone men I met during my time with the phone company. We became friends after I came from NJ Bell to PA. He helped me understand the PA way versus the NJ way of phone operations. I was always impressed with his original paycheck he had framed on his office wall. And retold the story of it over 100 times since he and I retired. We continued as friends sharing emails over the years, many jokes some funny some naughty. News about company benefits and other changes. We met too few times over the years and that will be one of my regrets. Rest In Peace my friend.

Can´t say enough kind words about Larry (Pop).
What a great neighbor and Mostly a friend for our 40 years we lived there .
He was always willing to lend a Helping hand to whatever you needed or fix whatever needed fixing .
We would always say "Team Work"when cutting the grass or doing our mounds of leaves with our Big Blue tarp!
He will be surly missed
Sorry for your loss Joann ( Nan) and the whole family.

Our family has suffered a devastating loss. My Brother in law Larry was the best. He never said no when asked for help. I know I have no business owning a house without him around to help me and take care of everything. He will be missed immensely. Till we all meet again ❤
