Lawrence "Larry" Walker Maas, 86, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at College Station Medical Center, in College Station, TX.
Larry was born on July 7, 1926 in Houston, Texas. His family moved to San Antonio, TX where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson high school in 1943 and later moved to Pasadena, TX where he met his wife Flora "Faye" Wismer while working at Shell Oil Company. Faye and Larry were married on June 18, 1954.
Graduating with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and a MS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, Larry began his career at Shell Oil Company in 1946 and later retired after 41 years of service as a Research Chemist. During his service at Shell Oil, Larry was the inventor on record for several patents.
Larry served in the Navy during WWII, and received an honorable discharge.
He was a member of First Baptist Church College Station, TX Cornerstone Sunday School Class, a Lifetime member and Past Master of Pasadena Masonic Lodge No. 1155 in Pasadena, TX, member of Shell Retirees Association and a member of the "Chain Saw Gang" which performed weekly volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Gustavous Maas and Eva Walker Maas Vogel.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Maas; three daughters and sons in law, Polly and Daniel Fields of Bryan, TX, Susie and John Brockman of Knoxville, TN and Jane and Charles Costello of Santee, SC; eight grandchildren, Michael Stengel, Eric and Cathy Fields, Christina and Scott Birtell, Matthew Costello, Mandy and Matthew Griffiths; and one great grandson Jonathan Alvarez.
Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Cornerstone Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church College Station for their love and support and a special thanks to friends Jim Bruffett, Ann Hays, Dr. Stephen Tseng and Dr. David George.

We have such fun memories of Larry and Faye while the girls were involved in Rainbow. What a wonderful family! Our heartfelt sympathy to all the family. Larry was a good man and will be missed but he has gone to be with our Heavenly Father.
