Lawrence Marcus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2017.
MARCUS, Lawrence William (Larry), 87, on August 23, 2017 peacefully entered into rest surrounded by his family and friends. He was pre deceased by his beloved wife of 29 years, the late Elaine Kahn Marcus in 1983. He was the only son of the late Anne (Rubin) Marcus. He grew up in Chelsea then later moved to West Roxbury where he lived for 45 years. He retired in 1995 to New Hampshire and eventually South Carolina. Larry was a beloved resident of the Veterans Victory House for the last few years where he made the staff laugh, and they loved his smile. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1947, and many years later graduated Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Computers. He worked in computers for 35 years as a documentation specialist. Larry was a Korean War Veteran and served four years in the United States Air Force as a crew chief mechanic on B29's from 1948 to 1952. He fully enjoyed 22 years of retirement traveling the US and abroad. He was a kind, gentle, and simple man who loved life and enjoyed having a good time. He made friends wherever he went, and he was loved for his sparkling personality. His family will remember him as a beloved father, husband, and grandfather. There are no words to describe how much we will miss him. Larry is survived by his daughter Fern Marcus-Karas and her husband Michael Karas, his son Stuart, his son Alan and his wife Jill, his grandson Devon and his granddaughter Kendall. He is also survived by his cousins Phil and Billy Feldberg. Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel 475 Washington St, Canton on Tuesday, August 29 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Shiva will be held at the home of his son Alan on Tuesday from 5 pm to 8pm and on Wednesday at the home of his son Stuart from 4 pm to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory can be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation at garysinisefoundation.org.

Dear Fern and Mike, We are so sorry for the loss of your dad, and for the grief you are feeling. We will treasure the photo of Larry and you both on the day he enjoyed his ice cream! Larry was fortunate to have you both by his side. May his memory be a blessing, and may your memories of him always be a blessing. Love, Gail and Neil
