BELVIDERE - Lawrence H. Orvis, 70, of Belvidere, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford after a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 22, 1934, in Starksboro, Vt., to Herman and Dorothy (Rublee) Orvis. He married Janice M. Trombley in Burlington, Vt., on April 25, 1959.
He was employed as an electronic technician for the U.S. Air Force for 23 years and later for Northrop for 20 years, retiring in 1997. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and American Legion Post 77 in Belvidere.
He had been a resident of Belvidere for 71/2 years, moving there from Algonquin.
He enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Kimber.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Sharon D. (William) Zimmermann of South Elgin, Kay L. (Dennis) Brooks of Hoffman Estates and Dean L. (Pamela) Orvis of Crystal Lake; eight grandchildren, Jonathon C. Ford, Justin H. Ford, Timothy M. Ford, Sara Brooks, Eric Brooks, Jessica Brooks, Janine Orvis and Rebecca Orvis; his mother, of Starksboro; two brothers, Charles (Jane) Orvis of Memphis, Tenn., and Ronald (Pat) Orvis of Ava, Miss.; a sister, Carolyn (Charles) Gibson of Starksboro; and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, with the rosary said at 7:45 p.m., at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home before the 10:30 a.m. Mass is celebrated at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere.
Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery.
