Lawrence Palmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 8 to Mar. 9, 2023.
Rev. Lawrence Eugene Palmer, age 70, passed away on March 5, 2023. Beloved husband of Beverly Spivey; devoted father of Charissa (Bradley) Gregory and Joshua Palmer; cherished step-father of Dawn (Brooks) Spivey Miller and Darin (Michelle) Spivey; proud "Papa" of Nathaniel, Jackson and Seth Gregory; adored "Pop-Pop" of Leah and Nathan Spivey; dear brother of Linda (Paul) Woodruff and sister-in-law of Maxine Palmer; caring step-son of Margie (Robert) Sherry; and uncle to niece and nephews.

Lawrence was born on July 30, 1952 in Crawford, Mississippi. He enjoyed a loving childhood with his parents and older siblings, and he received a solid and joyful religious foundation in the Baptist church. It's also where he developed that beautiful southern accent, along with a fondness for pork rinds and running barefoot in the country. As a youth, he felt a calling to spiritual service, leading him to minister for 48 years, first as a Baptist pastor and then following his inner direction into Unity.

Lawrence earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, serving Baptist congregations in rural Mississippi and Louisville, Kentucky. In 1992, he graduated from Unity Ministerial School in Missouri, ministering to Unity congregations across the country: Kansas City area, Sarasota, St. Louis, Colorado Springs, Memphis and Pompano Beach. Lawrence also served in Unity leadership positions on the local, regional, national and international levels.

In addition to his theological and metaphysical schooling, Lawrence enhanced his professional practice through training in Silva Mind Control, Heart Math, and Gateway Voyage consciousness at the Monroe Institute. He was a practicing Reiki Master and also engaged in extensive Shamanism training with the esteemed Michael Harner, Sandra Ingerman and Serge King. To all of it, he brought his unique style and dedicated commitment to helping others. Lawrence's preaching and teaching style has been lauded as intuitive and interactive, stemming from his deep passion for experiencing and facilitating personal growth and spiritual development.

Lawrence's love of learning extended to his personal life, and he had great zeal for many subjects. A multi-faceted and multi-talented man, Lawrence's interests included woodworking, hiking, cooking, reading, Native American flute, drumming, photography and creative writing. He continued to enjoy church conferences as well, which is where he connected with Bev and ignited a journey of immense joy for them both.

When Lawrence and Bev fell in love, he relocated to South Florida, and they celebrated their eternal union on November 7, 2015. Bev's family quickly embraced Lawrence for the wonderful man that he was, and he became an integral part. With Bev, Lawrence also became an essential part of the Unity Church of Pompano Beach, where he served as Co-Minister for 7 years. The two of them were partners in life and partners in service, deeply caring for the congregation.

Lawrence's impressive career and dedication to professional service paled in comparison to his love and devotion to his family. Lawrence talked sports and airplanes with his older grandsons. With the little ones, he built playhouses, played in the pool and made cookies together. Lawrence enjoyed spending time in the Bahamas, basking in a sunny hammock or driving Bev around in his beloved boat, "Miss Bliss."

Lawrence's ministry spanned half a century and many cities, earning him the respect of his professional community, the appreciation of his congregations, the admiration of everyone he encountered, and the deep love of family and friends. Along with his quiet sense of humor and love of telling "stories," Lawrence's unshakeable calm and unfailing kindness were an anchor to those around him and an inspiration to many.

Lawrence's memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Unity Church of Delray Beach, 101 NW 22nd St, Delray Beach, FL 33444. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests interested persons make a donation in Lawrence's memory to one of his favorite organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Broward County (https://habitatbroward.org/support/); Southeast Unity Ministries (https://seunityministries.org/donate/); or Faith Farm (https://www.faithfarm.org/).

I have deep gratitude for having had the sacred honor and privilege of walking on Life's Journey with Rev. Lawrence. By attending Unity Spiritual Center, Colorado Springs, I was greatly influenced by his spiritual teachings. Demonstrating his passion, authenticity, and commitment to be of service to others, he served as an illuminating beacon of inspiration. Seeds of transformation Rev. Lawrence Rev. Lawrence planted during his sacred earthly mission have become an ocean of bright light illuminating Earth with love. The world is a better place by the remarkable blessing of Rev. Lawrence's holy presence and his astounding sacred earthly mission. I'm so very grateful for the significant influence Rev. Lawrence contributed to my soul evolution. I will remember, celebrate, and keep him close to my heart always.

A classmate of Lawrence's in M.E.P. at Unity Village, I loved him immediately, as did everyone else, I suspect. He had a zest for living and loving and a sense of humor that would break up the saddest of people. I shall miss knowing he is on this earth, but I know his wonderful soul is blessing others on another level.

Lawerance saved me during a very difficult time, I didn´t have money for counseling and just cold called the church of unity looking for someone to talk to. He agreed to see me and our sessions were priceless, the wisdom and words stuck w me and later I would often think of him in troubled times, I knew exactly what he would say so I no longer needed to call him- he continued to counsel me without even knowing. I began attending the Sunday services and took meditation classes w him later. It seems like several lifetimes since then and I cherish the gifts he illuminated for me. Several pieces of my current spiritual practices came from that time. Thank you god - thank you god - thank you god.

I met Rev Palmer @ burning bowl ceremony New Year Eve 2015 @ Unity of Pompano. Even though I had not attended the church for over a year, I followed the church on line. Later while speaking with him I found that him and I knew several Unity ministers across the country including his co-minister in St Louis. I enjoyed his Sunday messages. I also liked his shirts. Bev, I know that you and Rev Palmer were only married for a short time. I am sure those years you were together were wonderful.

Rest in peace Rev Lawrence

Dear Bev and family, Our hearts join yours in
missing Rev. Lawrence deeply. We were praying he would stay longer with us but like the poet's "rose" he "came to a crevice in the wall through which there shone a beam of light" and he followed it " with added strength with never a thought of fear or pride...to the other side of Life "losing himself in beauties new"." The Rose still grows beyond the Wall"! He was a wonderful minister and teacher of Truth. He continues to live in the higher vibration of Truth, Love and Light. God bless you all and fill you with peace!

To the Palmer Family. My husband and I knew Lawrence from Unity of the Rockies. He influenced our lives in many positive ways. We were more involved in Unity of the Rockies than any other church and that was because of his leadership. We had the privilege of hosting him and Bev at our Loveland Colorado home and take them to Rocky Mountain National Park (Photo of Lawrence and Bev). He touched our lives and I know touched many. I extend sincere condolences to his family and I am grateful for his presence in our lives.
