Lawrence Siu Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 12, 2011.
Siu, Lawrence Y.,

passed over into God's arms on November 5, 2011, at the age of 80. Larry was born on June 23, 1931, to Robert and Daisy Siu in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the youngest of three sons. At 18, he served 2 years in the Army. After the army he became a Boilermaker apprentice at Pearl Harbor Shipyard, Hawaii. During that period, he met the love of his life, Bernice Chun at a moonlight picnic. Larry and Bernice were married for 55 years. In 1958, they moved to California where they made their permanent home in Huntington Beach and raised their two children, Michael and Lauren.

Larry worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard as a boilermaker. He retired from the shipyard in 1988 as a supervisor of the P&E section. After the shipyard, he worked for his cousin Robert Lewis at Bob Lewis Machine Company until he retired permanently in 1993 at the age of 62.

Larry was a dedicated grandpa. He taught the grandkids well in math and both are engineering majors at CSULB. In his later years, Larry remained active and was a regular at Huntington Beach Senior Center where he played cards and played the ukulele, and at the Fountain Valley Senior Center, where he exercised. Larry and Bernice also made yearly trips to Olympia, Washington, to visit their daughter Lauren and husband Carl.

Everyone loved Larry. He always had a smile on his face that lit up the room. His infectious laugh and sense of humor always made everyone happy. Larry loved life and he loved being around family and friends, but most of all, his love of God.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Bernice; son, Michael and wife Yasmin; daughter, Lauren and husband Carl, grandchildren Megan and Tyler; and brother, Anthony. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. We love you and you will always be in our hearts and memories.

Memorial services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Parish, 16400 Springdale St., Huntington Beach, CA, on November 17, 2011, at 10 a.m.
