Layne Larsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2022.
Our husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend passed away doing what he loved - riding his motorcycle. On Thursday, August 4, 2022, he embarked on his final ride... all the way to heaven. Layne was born June 18, 1954, to Art and Joy Larsen in Salt Lake City, UT. On August 7, 1975, Layne was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to the love of his life Jackie Blackburn.

Layne shamelessly marched to the beat of his own drum. Neither age nor injury ever stopped him from living life to the fullest. He was a loyal employee for Chevron Oil Refinery for over 40 years. He worked hard so he could play harder. Whether it was riding his motorcycles, fishing, boating, hunting, playing pickleball, shredding the flow-rider, playing with his partner in crime - Woody his hairless cat, or taking his family to play down at "The Property". There was never a dull moment with Layne around. His wit and wild experiences made all of his stories legendary.

We are crushed beyond words he is gone. We know he is at peace and we will miss him. "Well anyways..." He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years Jackie - "The best thing that ever happened to him." - His words not ours. He is survived by his four children: Dahlia (Jerin), Aisilinn (Kyle), Kenyon (Carie), and Lance (Atalie). His grandchildren: Alexa (Hayden), Shelbie (Isaac), Paiten, Mccoy, Asher, Jaxton, Bennett, Elsie, Bodie, Berklie, Feinyx, Monroe, and a great-grandbaby on the way. His siblings: Kay, Diana, Sherm, and Lynn. Mother-in-law Geri Blackburn.

Preceded in death by his parents, Art and Joy Larsen, and his father-in-law Merlin Blackburn.

All are welcome to join in sharing memories and celebrating Layne's life

Jackie and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Layne for years at the Salt Lake Refinery and again at the Holly Frontier Refinery. His work ethic was excellent. We enjoyed archery shooting and hunting together. He was a joy to be around and he always kept people laughing. He will be missed by everyone. My condolences to the family.

Jackie, our hearts are broken hearing of Layne´s passing. You and the kids are in our thoughts and prayers.

Lean on all the fun times and good memories you have. We´ve been reminiscing about the trips and dinners with the two of you. A few of our adventures were scary, but most were filled with laughter, or Layne´s famous stories. He was always the adventurer.

Jackie, you have such great kids. I´m sure they are rallying around you, always supporting you. You also have some good friends that will do anything for you. We will be always be here for you. I see trips still in our future (Glacier). Like Kathy & Denny said, plan on us dropping by to say Hi. We love you!!

Jackie and family, words cannot express the sadness we feel. Layne was such a generous, caring and kind friend. He´d do anything for his friends. In the last few days we have relived so many fun times we had with you two. Yes, there were plenty of scary times, but mostly laughter. May all the memories comfort you and your family. We´re here for you always. We love you!

My sincere condolences. I worked with Layne in Malongo, Angola for a few years on Chevron´s Inspection team. In those years, I got to know him well and always appreciated his high energy and willingness to share his years of experiences with all. Both being avid motorcycle riders, we enjoyed sharing stories from the road. He will be missed.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Ms Jackie and the Larson Family. Layne was a trainer and mentor to me. He was also a friend. His unique expertise set a standard that wasn't always easy to meet. His kind soul and friendly nature occasionally allowed him to relax the expectation a bit (but he never wavered on the standard).

A big man with a big laugh and a bigger legacy. May his wonderful soul rest with the Lord. Love you, man!

We are sending prayers of comfort and peace to the family. Byron & Angela Spencer

SEAN remembered going to flaming Gorge and sitting on your jet boat with Dalia and Asilyn.

I remember us driving with Lane around the mountain with him hanging out the window doing mating calls to the elk. So exciting to see them come out of the bushes so that we could see them until we had to drive off when they got too close. I have never experienced such an experience.

My deepest sympathies to all of Layne´s family. I worked extensively under Layne´s guidance during the early 1990´s and he had a huge impact on my career as an inspector. He truly did everything with zeal and passion. He was a true friend during the short period of time I had the privilege of having his acquaintance.

We still cant get the shock that's still in our heads! You, Layne and your family has been very close with us for many years! I estimated that Layne and Denny (Dennis) met back in 1970-71. They both had a passion for riding dirt bikes and that's when it started. They've been riding and fishing buddy's out there having the best time ever! Oh how we are going to miss him.....
Jackie, you have the most wonderful and caring family that is always by your side to give you love and support. We are friends & family that have cherished our friendship.
We will always be here for you doing lunch or dinner and just come over to say Hi!

We love you,
Kathy and Denny (Layne was the one person I know that called him Dennis)
I just have ask, "Is there Mexican Food in Heaven?"

Losing loved ones is so hard! But something we must all learn in this earth life experience. You will be together again and oh what a beautiful rejoicing that will be, he is where there is nothing but acceptance and love, laughter and joy. We must think of them not us and how we hurt, this sometimes helps a little. We love you and our prayers are with you and yours. Paul and Iris - 80l-967-7091.
