Leah Sorensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2025.
Leah Denise Sorensen, beloved Nana, mother, wife, sister, auntie and friend passed away peacefully in her Dixon home on June 28th, 2025 after a years long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Leah was born to parents Betty Grisel DeLong and Richard Delong on September 28th, 1964 in San Leandro, CA. She spent her childhood traveling the United States following her step father's Sprint Car racing career before her family settled in Dixon, CA in 1976. Soon after high school, Leah received her cosmetology license and began her 40 year long career as a hairdresser at her mother's salon, Pierre & Company. She eventually moved on and spent the latter half of her career working alongside her sisters at Cynde's Place in downtown Dixon. Leah met the love of her life, Grant Sorensen through mutual friends and would eventually marry in 1993 where they would then go on to raise their four daughters together.

Leah had a passion for hair but more than anything a passion for people. She was a deeply beloved member of her community and had a gift for connecting with others. When she wasn't down at the salon, she enjoyed spending time with her family camping in the mountains of Stonyford or on the coast by the ocean. Her hobbies included crocheting, decorating her home and repainting her walls any chance she could. She loved to travel, Hawaii and Mexico being some of her most favorite places to visit. More than anything she loved to watch her kids play sports and spent most of her weekends dedicated to swim meets, volleyball, softball tournaments and raising lambs for the fair. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren any chance she got. She was the world's greatest Mother and Nana.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Grant Sorensen and their children Nicole Davis (Anderson), Kendall Burns (Matt), Sydney Freitas (Darren), Kallie Sorensen (Tyler); their seven grandchildren, Gage, Nash, Krew, Brooklyn, Collins, Beau, Baker; her mother and step father Betty and Jimmy Boyd and her siblings Jan Opperman (Cynde), Jayme Opperman, Missy Torres (Bebo), Julie Gageman (Eddie), and Jessica DeLong. She is preceded in death by her father Richard DeLong and grandmother Naomi DeLong.

Leah was a kind heart and incredibly caring, she wore her heart on her sleeve. As a devoted wife, a fantastic mother, and a true friend, she touched the lives of many. Her friendship was a treasure to all who knew her, and her absence will be profoundly felt by her community and loved ones. To have known and been loved by Leah was truly a blessing. A graveside service will be held in her honor at Silveyville Cemetery on July 25th, 2025, at 10:30 am. Following the service, a celebration of her life will take place at the Olde Vets Hall in Dixon, California, where family and friends are warmly invited to gather.

There have been so many messages describing their love for Leah. Each message describes her perfectly. My son and Grant were best friends through school. When I first met Leah, I knew how lucky Grant was to have met such a loving and wonderful young lady. Over time, she became my hair dresser. We always shared so many memories over the years. Everyone who knew her loved her. You know how you say there are some people you meet that everyone loves, who never has an unkind thing to say about anybody, that describes Leah perfectly. She was never negative, never unkind, always hopeful and uplifting. Always looking at the glass half full, not half empty. I know her family knew how much she loved them, but I don't know if they ever really knew the depths of this woman's love for them and life in general. In my world, in my mind, she was truly an angel on this earth. My heartfelt condolences and love to her entire family. The Swayne family

Leah was my hair stylist by trade and she was the best. I was blessed to be her client for many years. Her legacy though is her capacity to love and listen and that made her an even better friend. She loved her family fiercely and that was always foremost in her life. Take heart, in Heaven that love is fully realized and she is fully healed. She is no longer bound by the constraints of Earth and her family and friends will feel that love always until you see her again.

There are some people that come into your life and you just know it wasn´t by accident. We met when our girls became friends in elementary school. Throughout the years we passed each other at multiple events and she was always welcoming and kind. She treated my daughter as one of her own. When my mother moved to town looking for a hairdresser, Leah was it. She was amazing and my mom loved going each week to get pretty and spend time talking with Leah. She always made her feel seen and heard. Our paths crossed as well as our random text messages to keep in touch and each time was like no time had passed. Leah, you made such a positive impact on your community, family and friends. You will be missed terribly! Sorensen Family, time will not heal but the beautiful memories and life lessons she taught you will live forever. I´m so deeply sorry for your loss.

I´m so deeply sorry to lose Leah. She was the first friend I made in Dixon, when I moved here in 1990, and she fixed my botched Supercuts haircut. She gave my kids their first haircuts. I learned so much about being a parent from Leah. She was a natural mother, loving her children and grandchildren deeply and fiercely. When my elderly mom moved here, Leah was so patient and kind to her, and always made her feel beautiful. Knowing her over 30 years, I counted her a true friend. Her warmth, humor and caring will be deeply missed, as she was a force of positive energy in the universe. My deepest sympathies to her family - I know she loved them very much. - Julie Skaug

I too first knew Leah from Dixon Girls Softball and later from the salon. She was always the person to pitch in, have great ideas and always a kind word. She was a gentle soul who loved her family with her whole being. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those who loved her and an amazing legacy of what it truly meant to be a good human being

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I have so many fond memories of Leah and I playing softball for many, many years and Leah cutting my hair with her special talent and love. When you walked out of the salon, you felt like a princess. She will be missed by many and there are not too many people that loved life like Leah did.
