Lee Fredrickson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 21 to Apr. 23, 2018.
Lee John Fredrickson

Green Bay - Lee John Fredrickson, 72, died Friday, April 20, 2018, on the 44th wedding anniversary to his beloved wife Carol. He died peacefully at home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 27, 1945 in Oconto to the late Carl and Lylas (Gilligan) Fredrickson. The family eventually moved to Lena and then Slinger, Wisconsin, where Lee attended Slinger High School, graduating in 1963. While in high school Lee played football, belonged to a 4-H club, and began singing in a barbershop quartet. In 1973 Lee met the love of his life and best friend, Carol Kiszonas. They married on April 20, 1974 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek. They spent 44 years arguing about who loved whom more!

Lee began teaching in the Green Bay School District in 1968 at Edison Jr. High and Preble High School and taught until his retirement in 2002. He was very involved in his career at Preble and received the James A. Taylor Award for Excellence in Teaching, in economics as part of a team of teachers from Edison Junior High. Lee taught Government Economics and Advanced Placement Economics. He began coaching football at Preble in 1971 and coached for 32 years. During his coaching career Preble went to the state semi-finals four times. Lee was just notified prior to his death that he will be inducted into the Preble Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was a 48 year member of the Baylander Barbershop Chorus where he co-directed for many years. Since he began singing, he sang with numerous quartets, the most recent being, "Something Old, Something New" quartet. The group would frequently perform at old age homes, for birthdays and especially singing valentines.

Lee was a man of faith and an active member of Prince of Peace Parish. He took great pride singing in the church choir and enjoyed cantoring. When it was parish picnic time, you could find Lee with his apron on, grill tongs in hand, and brats and hot dogs cooking.

His pride and joy were his family and all that came with it. He enjoyed being on the farm up north, baling hay, working on projects or tinkering with his Case tractor, spending time with "the boys" and their families, working or playing together. Lee's grandchildren always brought him a special joy and created many family memories.

He is survived by his wife Carol and their two children, Gregg (Jessica), Pulaski and Casey (Katie), Laona; seven grandchildren: Sofia, Lilas, Magnus, Mattias, Avery, Levi and Mila Fredrickson; a special niece, Alecia Kiszonas, Pullman, Washington; his brother, Gary (Sandy) Fredrickson, Huntington, IN; two sisters, Carol and Donna Fredrickson, both of Oshkosh; his in-laws: Ray (Ann) Kiszonas, Goodman; Evelyn Kiszonas, Armstrong Creek; Ruth (Jerry) Schwartz, Armstrong Creek; and Anthony (Diane) Kiszonas, Sturgeon Bay; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Anton and Virginia Kiszonas, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 24, from 3:00 - 7:00 pm. A parish wake service will close the evening at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd. after 9:30 am until time of Mass. Funeral Mass 11:30 am at the church with Rev Robert Rhyner officiating. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Armstrong Creek. Online condolences may be sent to the Fredrickson family at www.prokowall.com.

My Favorite Memory of Freddy was when he would keep saying "its a great Day to be Alive" as we were doing the 4 corner drill in football at Preble and that drill sucked. Freddy was awesome some great memories of him and all those great coaches back in the 80's

Very sad to hear of Mr Fredrickson's passing and on his wedding anniversary of all days. I pray he rest in peace with no pain.

My memory of him is a funny one. I liked to talk and sometimes while he was talking but his funny phrase that I will never forget is when he would say
"You have Diarrhea of the Mouth" still makes me laugh to this day.

I mention Mr. Frederickson to my own high school social studies classes when I have them memorize his definition of economics, or how the immigration patterns in early America were like a stew. Even though I graduated 20 years ago I still can remember his lessons like yesterday. Thank you, Mr. Fred, for sharing your passion and inspiring students like me to become educators like you. May the angels hold you tight.

I taught with Lee at Edison Middle School. He was always very helpful to me and had a smile on his face. The only thing I enjoyed more than working with him was his singing! With sympathy

Carol & Family,
Sending condolences and healing prayers for your loss. I had Lee as a teacher back in the 80's and loved his energy, passion and creativity in sharing his knowledge of social studies. I had the wonderful opportunity to see another side of him when you and he became our Christian mentor couple when my husband and I went through the marriage coaching before we got married. His faith and your dedication to each other as husband and wife were inspiring. My daughter had the opportunity to meet Lee at church last year with my parents and it gave me the opportunity to share with her what a special teacher/mentor he was.
May you find peace and serenity in your countless memories...until you are together again.
Love and Peace,
Shane and Amy (Cisler) Gutzman
