Lee Friedman

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Lee Friedman, who left us on August 15, 2025 at the age of 72.

He is survived by his sister, Judy Friedman, his brother Richard Friedman, his niece Michelle Friedman, and nephews Jay Friedman and Michael Friedman, as well as many other relatives, friends and colleagues.

Born on December 5, 1952 in Chicago, to parents Jay and Edith Friedman, Lee was one of the kindest people you could ever know. He would do anything for anyone without question. He resided in Kyle, Texas where he worked as a research scientist in ocular biometrics for Texas State University. He was highly respected at the university and in his scientific community. Lee graduated from Evanston Township High School and did his undergraduate work at the University of Illinois. He went on to get his Master's Degree in Biophyscology at The University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at McGill University in Montreal.

Lee died of natural causes while fly fishing in Colorado - doing what he loved best in one of his favorite places on earth. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

There will be private memorial services in the Chicago area and at the university. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to Alpine Search & Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide free search and rescue operations to any individual in need. It is only through their unwavering dedication and enormous 3-day effort involving scent dogs, drones, boats, sonar and foot searches that Lee was located and retrieved with dignity. The efforts of the Alpine Search & Rescue team along with Jefferson County and Denver Water have enabled his family to find answers and lay him to rest in the manner in which he wished.
