Lee King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 6, 2024.
Momon Lee King, Jr was born on September 3, 1940 in Abilene Texas to Momon Lee King, Sr and Patty Bridges Bass King.

Lee died on November 27, 2024 at the age of 84 in Grand Prairie Texas.

A Celebration of Life is to be held December 14, 2024 at 11am at the First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie.

Lee grew up in Ranger, Texas where he played sports, made life long friends and was loved by everyone. On a football scholarship at Mc Murray University in Abilene, Lee played for Grant Teaff as a left handed quarterback.

After graduation, Lee taught school and coached football for 12 years, ending his career as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Grand Prairie High School.

Lee became a State Farm Agent and for 44 years served his customers with dignity and respect.

Lee was known for his Christian spirit of kindness, compassion, and generosity. And, he was witty. EVERYONE enjoyed being around Lee. He began learning golf at age 11 and was hooked! He was an avid golfer with four documented holes-in-one.

Lee enjoyed the crisp morning air while hunting and camping. And, driving Chevy pickups.

Lee loved family gatherings with the kids and grandkids during beach vacations, watching and calling plays on tv football games or just sitting on the patio visiting. His son Michael and daughter Whitney and his family meant everything to him.

Lee King is survived by his wife Jerry Cleveland King of 25 years, daughter Whitney King, son Michael King, step son David Dover (Sandra). Grandchildren Davis Chapman, Mason Chapman, Presley King, Reece King, and Katelynn Dover Hyche (Brandin). Niece Patty Beth (Sutton) Fritz (Paul), nephews Bass Sutton (Amy) and Bart Sutton (Pam).

Lee is predeceased by his parents, sister Sara Beth King Sutton, and Judson King (cousin) and extended family and friends who loved him.

Also predeceased, some of his lifelong friends Lloyd Taliaferro; Fred Austin; J.R. Hall; and Charles Wolford.

Donations may be made to North Texas Food Bank where Lee worked through his church to deliver food to those in need. Or to the Gopher Quarterback Club (501c3).

Lee was my State Farm Agent since 1992 and what a great agent he was. I am going to miss him. I received notification that he was retiring from the ladies in his office. I know he enjoyed himself here and sometimes when I would at his insurance office, he would walk out and speak to everyone waiting to be seen.

What I learned from him, was to enjoy life and family. He will be truly missed by me and my family.

Sometimes you tell yourself that you are ok. I told myself that after my mother's passing. Nothing could have been further from the truth. My heart was broken. Lee and Jerry recognized that and brought me into their fold. Their companionship healed my heart. My friendship with Lee grew over that time. From the occasional beer and backyard BBQ to ...."hey Phil why don't you just stay here so that you don't drive snowy freeways tomorrow." One occasional night turned into several. It turned out we needed each other. We both loved sports! Many the football game on tv was screamed at by us both. We loved watching endless golf tournaments together. I nicknamed him Lee"Trevino" King! He loved that. I loved sitting outside with him watching nature and talking about our lives, and loves. I always welcomed his sage advice. I miss it so much now. I know he would tell us to pick up our golf bags and get walking to the next hole. That's what I will do. I loved him like a father. I was honored to help Jerry care for him. I'll see you at the 19th hole someday Lee! I love you! Thanks for being my best wingman!

Coach King was a great coach, teacher, friend and Christian man.
I will always remember the years that was spent playing for him at Grand Prairie High. Prayers for his family and other friends who have also felt this lose. God bless and comfort you all.

A great coach who taught and motivated me to be a better player on the field and a better person off the field. Those football years were very formative in who I am today as a Christian, father and grandfather. I'm so grateful for that .

My dog Cookie and I enjoyed our visits on his backyard patio. My dog loved him and looked forward to her being petted. Cookie still looks up to the patio when we do our walks. Lee was special to both of us. Judyth

From the moment I met him, I knew Lee was so special. He took me in as his own and loved me unconditionally. My temporary job lasted 17 years and created a lifetime of love, affection, and respect. His last "I love you" will always be with me.
His thoughtful and wise words are embedded in my mind. His immense love surrounds his loved ones. His unwavering faith is a true testament. His generous heart is a blessing to all recipients. It was certainly my pleasure to know him.
