Lee Zinman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2024.
Lee David Zinman, the best man his wife, four children and nine grandchildren are likely to

meet in this, or any other lifetime, passed peacefully on March 6th, 2024. He cast the lines of

his beloved sloop, Footloose, put some Jimmy Buffet on the radio, hoisted sail and set a

course for far horizons.

May a favorable wind carry him on his way.

Lee leaves behind a bereaved but grateful family, and a wide circle of friends, all of whom know

deeply how lucky they are to have been loved by this very good man; this loving brother,

adoring husband, most excellent father, and grandfather, and the truest, most faithful friend.

That love was returned to him in boundless measure.

If love were currency - which of course, it is - Lee would be, quite possibly, the richest man

who ever lived.

Lee was born in New York City, the son of Lucile Zinman (nee Zuckerman) and M. Boyd

Zinman. He attended Yonkers High School where he fell in love with Janet Copeland. It is a

love that would span more than six decades. They married in 1961 in New York City.

Lee went on to Colby College, followed by a successful career in Podiatry, where his

remarkable capacity for care and generosity were made evident by the endless stream of

cakes, platters of cookies, casseroles, and bricks of government cheese, that were brought

home in lieu of payment.

Money never mattered much to him. People did. Joy did. And his joy was found in giving.

The constant refrain being spoken by all who have been grieving and commiserating has been

"If you needed a shirt, Lee would give you the shirt off his back." It's fair to add, if you needed

pants, he'd give you those too. And he'd keep you smiling while he did.

Which is why his beloved wife, Janet; his children, Jill (Jeffrey), John (Amy), Jamie (Vandana),

and Andrew (Hillary); his grandchildren, Matt, Sammy, Dexter, Beau, Scott, Alex, Celia, Griffin

and Ryan, are left with a hole that will never fully be filled - except by the inspiration of his

example, and the memories of all the great times spent together.

In the final tally, it's family that was his greatest joy of all.

Love is the lesson that was his life. Let us all strive to honor him by following it.

His mother Lucille lived across the street from me. She was my guardian angel. After working part time in his Podiatry Office in Dobbs Ferry(making orthotics, et. al.) I decided to pursue a career in the same. What a family!

To the Zinman family,
So sorry to hear this sad news. I remember spending lots of time as a child visiting the Yonkers home of Lucille and family
.I also went through school with Nancy.
