Jay Dougherty Obituary

JAY KEVIN DOUGHERTY, SR.

Kevin passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at The Nathaniel Witherell Home in Greenwich Connecticut after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was a former public school and college educator in Connecticut and New York.

Mr. Dougherty was born in Port Chester, New York and was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross in 1956 was a proud and active alumnus. Mr. Dougherty was a former member and officer in the Exchange Club of Danbury, Connecticut and Rotary Club of Byram/Cos Cob, Connecticut. In retirement he was President of the Daytona Beach Chapter of the (New York) Teacher Retirees in Florida and a member of Port Orange Elks Lodge 2723, the Knights of Columbus Council 8086, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1263.

Mr. Dougherty was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Peggy) of 41 years, his brother Hugh Bruce and an infant son Steven. He is survived by three sons, Jay Kevin, Jr., Michael of New Canaan, Connecticut, Patrick of Bridgeport, Connecticut, a brother Peter Shawn of Oriental, North Carolina and four grandchildren, Jay Kevin III, Jacob, Bridget and Caragh. The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 pm at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. Greenwich; a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday 11:30AM at St. Michael's Church, North St. Greenwich. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers a charitable donation may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
