Lela Wolgast Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
Lela Belle Wolgast (née Zolman), age 97, passed away peacefully on August 22 2025, in Dallas Texas. Born on May 5 1928, in Pontiac Michigan, Lela lived a long and vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and passions.

Throughout her nearly century-long journey, Lela embraced life with warmth and a joyful spirit. She was known for her fun-loving nature and good sense of humor-qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. A devoted mother and a nurturing presence in the lives of many, she created a home where love was abundant and laughter was never far away.

During her lifetime, always surrounded by family, Lela resided in Lapeer MI, Hillman MI, Ladysmith WI and Portland OR, eventually moving to Dallas TX in 2011.

Lela had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She loved to travel and explore new places, often drawn to the beauty of trains and lighthouses along the way. Her extensive travels included Australia, Hawaii, Europe, and all over the United States, accompanied by her family. Her curiosity extended to the pages of books and crossword puzzles, which she enjoyed with enthusiasm. A talented cook and baker, she delighted in preparing meals that brought people together-especially during Christmas, her favorite time of year. The holidays were a cherished time for Lela, when family gathered close and traditions were lovingly upheld.

Her hands were rarely idle; she found joy in crocheting intricate patterns and watching birds from her window. Westerns held a special place in her heart-stories of resilience and adventure that mirrored her own enduring spirit. Faith played an important role in Lela's life. For a significant period, she was very active in her church community, offering her time and energy with dedication.

Lela is survived by her brother, Robert Snyder; children, Dan Wolgast, Jane Avni, Todd Wolgast, Teresa Lossing, Kellie Conatser; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren; and her cat Sweetie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wolgast, brother, Roscoe (John) Zolman, sisters, Lavina (Tootie) Schultz and Alice Johns, and daughter Linda Pallett.

Lela Belle Wolgast will be remembered as a loving mother, a caring soul with an infectious laugh, and someone who found beauty in both the extraordinary and the everyday. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 31, 2025 at The home of Kellie and Chris Conatser, 17421 Marianne Circle, Dallas Texas.
