Lennox Mirjah Obituary

Lennox Mirjah

The loves of Lennox’s life were his family, friends and sports. He was one of 21 children and among them they formed a village. The love and support within the family is tremendous. The loyalty is fierce; there is nothing this family wouldn’t do for one another and that is how he lived. He always shared memories of growing up with his siblings and anytime they got together, they are all young again. Laughter would fill the house, usually because he was telling a joke. He adored all of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

The past year was a difficult one for him. Not only because he was battling cancer, but because his back prevented him from playing the sport he grew to love, golf. Many special friendships formed through his many foursomes (mind out of the gutter Aunt Jacqui!). He loved sports. When he wasn’t playing, he was watching. He grew up playing cricket (there were certainly enough siblings and cousins to form a cricket team) and was very proud to share that he was picked to play an exhibition match in Grenada for the West Indies team. Living in Calgary, away from most of his family, his cricket team became an extended family. He also loved to play tennis. While in Barbados he formed a bond with a group he played tennis with weekly. They traveled all over together on annual trips.

Throughout this sad time, it has become more apparent that Lennox touched many people in his lifetime. He left deep, long lasting impressions on people. People who he met as clients in his insurance career became great friends.

He was loved by his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed knowing about all of their accomplishments and was always encouraging. His playful nature drew the young ones to him. He was their protector in their eyes. When they got in trouble at home, they wanted to pack their bags to move in with their Uncle Len, and he loved bringing them home with him.

He was always so hospitable. Growing up there was always someone coming to stay with us. He was a great host and tour guide. His home was always open to anyone who wanted to visit, wherever he lived. Everyone and anyone had an open invitation to visit. He didn’t mind driving long distances, which helped make him such a great tour guide. Visitors or not, Sunday afternoons was family time. Often it would include a drive to discover a new area or town where we would picnic and then, ultimately end up at an ice cream shop. He loved his sweets! And we all loved him dearly.

Lennox lived his live to the fullest and enjoyed every moment. His nephew Mike put it best, he was always the person having the most fun in the room. He had a great life, well spent and we are all better for knowing him.

Uncle Len,

Your passing is an incredible loss. It is so so very sad. You will always be remembered and are a most noble cricket captain amongst the heavens. God's strength to his children and grandchildren.

I was very sad to learn of your father's death. The obituary really describes Lennox well. Mu deceased husband Dennis (his nephew - although of similar age - go figure) often spoke lovingly of Lennox. I personally only met him on a few occasions including a family reunion in 2002, I believe.
My condolences to Lennox' family and friends.
