Lenny Williams Obituary

Published by Las Vegas Review-Journal on Dec. 2, 2020.
Lenny Williams died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 28, 2020. She was born Leonore Kleinbauer in Amberg, Germany in 1934. She emigrated with her family to New York to escape the Nazi's at age 3. She later became Leonore Jeret after her father died and her mother remarried. After graduating from City College of New York she worked as a grade school teacher. Here she met and married Curt Batiste. They moved to Los Angeles where they raised their family in Westwood. Lenny was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was passionate about its mission. She was clean and sober for 37 years and helped many people in the program. After her first marriage ended, she married Gene Williams. She and Gene lived together in Las Vegas for 30 years. Lenny was an outgoing and kind person, who made friends wherever she went. She is survived by her loving husband Gene, her sons Greg and Tim, daughter Kathy, daughters-in-law Barbara and Laura, son-in-law Lincoln and beloved cousin Irma. She was a loving grandmother (Oma Lenny) to her five grandchildren: Ryan, Ardea, Silas, Eden and Yarrow. She will live forever in our hearts!!

I had the privilege of doing Lenny´s nails for over 20 years. Listening to her stories about her life always made me smile. She loved her sobriety her precious Gene, her kids and her grandchildren. I´ll always smile when I see a rag magazine because of Lenny. She would walk in the salon, get fresh coffee with way to much creamer, grab the latest enquirer and I would do her nails as she flipped thru the pages. She is definitely missed.

Lenny was truly one of a kind. She was such a sweet, kind and beautiful lady. She had an infectious happiness which rubbed off on anyone in her presence. She would make me feel that I was the most important person in the room. She befriended my daughter when she was struggling, always encouraging her. My daughter is half way through her teaching degree and was very sad when I told her that Lenny had passed. Lenny had a beautiful life with many friends. I hope her family knows that she touched countless lives in such a positive way. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

Lenny and I were the best of friends in early sobriety. She was so kind to me, always including me in her social activities. She is forever in my heart as having made a profound influence on my life.

Lenny always shared what we had in common... We were both teachers, were only children, and had three kids. She was warm hearted and always reached out to people around her. I remember she was the first person to give me her phone number when I entered AA. Lenny gave me an inspirational card on one of my AA birthdays, as well. It was obvious by her storytelling that she let a colorful life. She will be missed by many. My heartfelt condolences to her family and other friends.

My mom was beautiful inside and out. She was loving, kind, charismatic and generous. Her life was interesting and colorful. She was a great story teller. Her life in Los Angeles, California with my dad was full of exciting times. They had parties with interesting friends and intellectuals. I remember Rajneeshees at the house. They knew people like Ravi Shankar. She had private yoga classes with Bikram. They were involved in Synanon. Later she lived in Las Vegas with her husband Gene. There she was very involved with AA and touched many lives. She was clean and sober for 37 years. RIP mama Lenny. I and the rest of the family will miss her terribly.

Thank you all for caring about her and being her friend!!

I offer my condolences to the family and those who grieve. Lenny always had a smile on her face and a kind word to share. She walked through life with grace which showed by how thoughtful and caring she was towards others. What an amazing example of how to live. She’s left a piece of herself in the hearts of many and I believe that is how she lives on, in our hearts.
