Lenore Solar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2015.
Lenore Jean (Burks) Solar, 79, of West Covina, passed away in the early hours of September 18, 2015. After battling a sudden illness for three weeks, she succumbed in the presence of family at Kaiser Permanente in Baldwin Park. Born in Monterey Park on March 16, 1936 to Charles and Bernice (Enslow) Burks, Lenore was a member of the Order of Job's Daughters in South Pasadena, and she was part of the 1954 graduating class of Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra. As an adult, she worked as an instructional aide for Covina Valley Unified School District for 25 years, the majority of those years at Traweek Middle School. She was also greatly involved with Pacific Coast Little League in West Covina for 14 years, serving as Auxiliary President in 1977-78. For those who bore witness to her support for her children's activities, and for those whom she later talked to for great lengths about them, they will remember Lenore for her zeal, which at times could be particularly boisterous.

Lenore is survived by her first husband, James Solar; her children, Scott (& Shelley) Solar, Brian Solar, Valerie Whitaker, Michael (& Gena) Solar, and Randy (& Kimberly) Solar; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Preceding Lenore in death are her parents, her half-sisters Jacqueline (Bateman) Arblaster and Ione (Bateman) Strinz, and her second husband, James Brown. Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier (3888 Workman Mill Road) will host funeral services on Monday, October 12, at 11:00 am. A viewing will take place at Rose Hills at 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 11.
