Leo Eich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 13, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Leo B Eich left this life unexpectedly on December 16th 2023 at the age of 94.

Leo was born on October 4th, 1929 to Grace and Arthur Eich in Plymouth, Indiana, younger brother to Arthur Jr. He had a fairly unconventional childhood and spent a lot of time working alongside his dad, where he picked up his mechanical and engineering interests and talents. He delighted in thinking of unique, inventive ways to build, fix and create things. He was always curious; always trying to figure out how things worked and always asking questions.

Leo married his beautiful blue eyed bride, Beverly, in 1952 and they went on to have 3 children, Dennis, Cheryl and Kim. Together they started Oak Crest Realty and Oak Crest Development in Plymouth. After one too many frigid winters, they decided to pack up and move to sunny Arizona. They enjoyed traveling the world and visiting family.

We will miss his sweet heart, quick wit, love for unique toilets around the world, and above all, for how loved he made us all feel. He was always very present with us and it was clear how much he cared.

Leo is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beverly, his daughters Cheryl (Jaime) Lopata and Kim (Vince) Eck and grandchildren Kim Lopata, Sam Eck and Aubree Eck. He is preceded in death by his son, Dennis Eich.

As per Leo's request, no memorial service will be held.

Leo was one heck of a great guy. He was always so friendly.

We do have a story to share. We needed some dirt to fill in some holes in our yard. I called the trucking company and asked them if they would deliver some dirt. They asked how much I needed. Well I didn't have a clue, so I asked how much it was. When they told me, I thought that wasn't very much money, so I asked about the next step up. That was not very much over the first price, so I said I'd take it. Ren and I were upstairs when we heard this huge truck pull in and started dumping this mountain of dirt. Ren asked me why I got a tri-axel truck load. I told him it was a real deal.

Leo stopped in one afternoon and asked us what we were going to do with all of that dirt. Ren looked at me and I said I didn't know, because I had used all I needed. Leo offered to move it for us, I thought he meant with a shovel and wheelbarrow. He said he had a machine with a scooper on it. He put it between the garages at the funeral home, where it would not be seen. We asked how much we owed him and he wouldn't take anything.

That was Leo, a kind person with a big heart.

We send you our love.

To the Eick family: I´m so sorry to hear of the loss of your Leo. I remember when I first met him at the LaPorte Street house. It´s hard losing a parent but time makes the memories bittersweet. Again, my sympathies.
