Leo Hearlson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2025.
Leo Hearlson passed away on January 20, 2025 at the age of 95. Born on July 4, 1929, in Wellington, Kansas, Leo lived a long and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, work, and passions.

At the age of 17, Leo left Kansas to serve in the United States Navy until 1952. During his time in service, he met Virginia at a USO event in Tacoma, Washington. The two were married on January 24, 1953, and shared 58 wonderful years together until Virginia's passing. They raised seven children: Cecilia, Jerome, Brian, Rashinda, Pauline, Kenneth, and Mary. Leo was also a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia and their daughter Adeline.

After a brief time in Tacoma, Leo settled in Graham, Washington, where he spent the next 63 years. He worked as a diesel mechanic and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 612 as well as the Automotive Engineers. Known for his strong work ethic and mechanical expertise, Leo took pride in his career and enjoyed lending a helping hand to neighbors, family, and friends with their equipment and automotive needs.

Leo had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, camping, and later traveling across the United States. An avid bowler well into his 80s, he also enjoyed a good cribbage game and was always ready to share his jokes with those around him.

A celebration of Leo's life will be held on February 20th at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church Hall in Parkland.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

I was a good friend of Mary's in elementary school and spent a lot of time at her home with their family. Both her mother and father were very accepting of me like I was one of their own and I always enjoyed spending time at their home.

How strong he was. And how he cared for everyone. Even when people might not think it. And he made me laugh and helped raise me i think of his as my dad not my grandfather.
