Leo Pfeister Obituary
Leo Joseph Pfeister, 89, of Payson, AZ passed away Monday, April 24th, 2023 in Mesa AZ. after complications with hip surgery.
Leo was born August 30, 1933 in Sioux City, the first son of Leo Sr. and Hazel (Olson) Pfeister. Leo enlisted in the United States Navy as a 17-year-old. He served on the Valley Forge, the Essex, the Lexington, and the Enterprise for a total of 20 years and including service during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He helped support his mom and siblings as a young, newly enlisted man.
Leo loved the Lord and was a fine, strong example to his family members, serving his country, family, and church. Leo enjoyed football, baseball, and basketball. He loved spending time with family and extended family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and dry humor. He loved spending time in the forest and observing deer, elk and animals in the wild.
Leo is survived by his sons Michael Pfeister of Mesa, AZ, Charles Pfeister of Deer Creek, AZ, and siblings: Charles Pfeister of Sioux Center, IA, Leonard Pfeister of Lincoln, NE, Linda Beam of Sioux City, IA, Karen Carlson of Ames, IA, 8 grandsons (Michael Pernicano, Charles Pfeister, Chris Pfeister, Cody Dunn, Joseph Pfeister, Jesse Pfeister, Prescott Pfeister, and Dustin Johnson), 3 granddaughters (Mallory Dunn, Ashly Crothers, Heather Adams). 12 great grandchildren, Trevor, Willow, Tucker, Macy, Cloe, Michael, Jaden, Harley, Taylor, Memphis, Colt, Kiera Grace
Leo was preceded in death by his parents Leo Sr. and Hazel Pfeister, wife Rebecca Pfeister, daughters Becky Pernicano and Jenifer Dunn, son Ralph Pfeister, sisters: Leola Pfeister and Judith Pfeister, brothers: Gary Pfeister, Louis Pfeister, and James Pfeister, and granddaughter Lisa Pernicano.
Memorial Service 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20th at Calvary Chapel Payson, 1103 N. Beeline Highway, Payson, AZ 85541

Leo and I worked together on the Lutheran Thrift Shop truck, picking up and delivering, for 13 years! He, Jim Renton and I were the "Crew" for many years. He has remained my friend for the past twenty years and I will miss him.
