KHOURY, Leon COLUMBIA - Dr. Leon Joseph Khoury passed away on Sunday August 20th. at his home in Columbia, South Carolina surrounded by his loving wife and family. Dr. Khoury was born on December 11, 1919 in Columbia. He was the son of the late . Norman and Zakiah Asmer Khoury. He graduated from Columbia High School and earned his college degree from the University of South Carolina. He graduated from the Medical College in Charleston in 1949 and served his internship there. He completed his training in internal medicine at the old Columbia Hospital. He opened a private practice in Columbia on July 22, 1951 and announced his retirement on June 15, 1986. He was elected as chief of staff at Richland Memorial Hospital in 1974. He loved the art of medicine and was forever grateful for the privilege of serving his patients with love and compassion. Dr. Khoury was devoted to God and his church. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and subsequently St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dr. Khoury loved his family and was fortunate to have all of his children and grandchildren living close by in the Columbia area. He enjoyed playing cards, golf, and the University of South Carolina football and basketball. He will always be remembered for his devotion to God, family and for his generosity of spirit. Dr. Khoury is survived by his wife, Margaret Rose Khoury of Columbia and his six children, Rose Ann Khoury Geffre, Ph.D., Jeanine Khoury, Norma Khoury, M.D., Leon Khoury, Jr., M.D., Cathy Khoury Raad and Cindy Khoury Touma. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Daniel, Maggie, Adam, Rachel, Paul Anthony, Will, Thomas, Lee, Catherine, Rose and Luke; his brother, Hasham Khoury; and sister, Julia Shahid. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cleo Abdalla and his brother, Ed Khoury. The Rosary was recited at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Monday, August 21, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Serving as active pallbearers will be John Abdalla, Dr. Norman Khoury, Peter Shahid, Alfred Paul Joseph, John Edward Burg, Daniel Touma, Will Becker and Paul Anthony Raad. Adam Touma, Thomas Touma, Lee Khoury, III and Luke Khoury will serve as honorary pallbearers. Farewell Prayers and Final Commendation will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
