Leon Roan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2025.
Leon Calvin Roan, Jr., age 60, passed away in the early morning hours of March 19, 2025, in Columbus, OH, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle. Born on June 6, 1964, in Cleveland, OH, to Debra Elizabeth (Berry) Beverly and Leon Calvin Roan, Sr., Leon spent his early years in Cleveland before moving to Columbus for two decades. For the past 25+ years, he called South Charleston, WV home. He was a devoted husband to Patricia and a loving father to Shannon, Courtney, and Antonio.

Leon dedicated many years to the food industry but found his greatest joy and fulfillment in his roles as a husband, father, and Papa. Known for his radiant and loving personality, he was cherished by many. His deep love for family extended beyond bloodlines-many who knew him affectionately called him "Dad" or "Brother." A devoted fan of Cleveland sports teams, Leon cheered passionately for the Cavaliers and Guardians-but most especially for his beloved Browns. He always held onto hope that "next year will be our year." Leon also loved traveling, great food, movies, music and concerts, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Marshall Thundering Herd, watching and playing sports, daytime television, and most of all being surrounded by family and friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his father Leon Roan, Sr.; mother Debra (William) Beverly; brother Duane Roan; and parents-in-law Raymond and Barbara Griffis.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 24 years, Patti (Griffis) Roan; children Shannon (Lee) Myers, Courtney Roan, and Antonio Roan; grandchildren Kathleen Ratcliff, Skyler Myers, Grayson Roan, Quinnlei Adams, Rylan Myers, and Scarlett Adams; sister Tina (LaVance) Lining; brother Anthony (Chenae) Roan; sister-in-law Debbie (Rusty) Hall; brother-in-law David (Susie) Griffis; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. And many people who Leon considered family, Maureen White, Brooke Adams, Bryan Berry, Don Burton, Shaun Kinser, Ashli Snyder, Olivia Kinser, Hazel Kinser, Heather Lee, Michael Streets, Brittany Griffith, Shannon Wright, and Greg Tyler.

A celebration of life will be held on April 12, 2025, at Holiday Inn Suites, 400 2nd Ave SW, South Charleston, WV, 25303 from 1-4 p.m. A second celebration of life will be held on April 26, 2025, at The Oasis 216, located at 15901 St. Clair Ave, Cleveland, OH, 44110 from 5:30-8:30pm (Cleveland Browns attire encouraged).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to WV Kids Cancer Crusaders in honor of the memory of Leon. Donations can be sent via PayPal: mountianeersofhope or Venmo: @WVKidsCC -- please add "in honor of Leon Roan" in the notes section when donating.

May all of Leon's loved ones find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories that will be cherished forever.

My heart aches with memories of Leon. I'll always miss his loving check-ins and the way he made me feel like his own. He became my second dad 15 years ago, especially after I lost my father. I'll never forget his comforting hug and promise to be there for me. He truly meant it. I'm so grateful for the summers in WV, the Browns games (and those amazing chicken wings!), and our hotel hangouts. He was a special man. To Patti- Thank you for being dads absolute rock. The Lee's are sending you a big hug from Ohio! See you soon.

I didn´t have the chance to know Leon long, but I loved every time I got to see him while I was Grayson´s teacher! Leon was hilarious and we often picked on each other during school pickup! He was so thankful for me because I was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of having a guinea pig sleep in his room every night! Haha he will be missed by so many! RIP.
