Leon Sargent Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2013.
Leon "Sarg" Sargent, 85, entered into eternal rest April 5, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born November 2, 1927 in Fort Smith to Jim and Ada (McGee) Sargent. Sarg was retired from Kay Chair Co. and Kenline, traveling much of Oklahoma as a furniture manufacturers' representative. After retirement he co-owned and operated Cripple Creek Furniture. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during WWII.

Sarg was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and was an avid outdoorsman, as he loved to quail hunt, fish, and plow most anyone's garden. Sarg's personality allowed him to never meet a stranger and he seemed to know "someone" most everywhere he went. He worked with people of all walks of life, yet he never lost his common touch.

He leaves to cherish his memory; two daughters, Nancy Rich and her husband Bobby of Southlake, TX and Micki Edwards and her husband Jim of Fort Smith; his companion, Brenda Boyne of Van Buren; one brother, Jim Sargent, Jr. of Alma, AR; four grandchildren, Craig Rich and his wife Caroline of Denton, TX, Derek Rich and his wife Chelsie of Trophie Club, TX, Erin Edwards of Fort Smith, and Kelsey Edwards of Fort Smith. He is also survived by Stewart Sargent, Jr., Pam Bennett, and Bonnie Reel.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 8, 2013, in Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial in Sarah Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Harold "Honey" Graham, Walter Tankersley, Tim Mullins, Leonard Russell, Frank Neal, Jr., and Charles Wimberly.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Smith, Bob Selby, Bob Cummins, Jimmy Hall, Bob Rice, Jody Haralson, David Lockwood, Susan Foster, Raymond Whitmire, Tom White, and Charlie Wells.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to Shana's Last Chance Dog Rescue, 2724 Oliver Springs Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Thinking of Uncle Runt always brings a smile. He always picked at me when I was a kid and made me laugh. I don't think he ever called me by my name but always called me "Mary Jo" instead just to get me riled up. He will be greatly missed.

He was a caring, unselfish man & a joy to be with. His daughters were the most important ones in his life & he loved them dearly. Sarg was so sweet to my parents (Ray & Virginia Rose) & they were crazy about him. I'll always cherish my time with him especially fishing & dancing. Much love to his family. Lynda Rose-Goff
