Cobleskill - Leon (Leo) Maryan Uniszkiewicz, 77, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008. He was born the youngest of six children to Polish immigrants Maryan and Bronislawa (Kujawski) Uniszkiewicz. He was predeceased by his parents as well as brothers, Joseph, Henry, and Chester, and sister Jeannie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Antonette and their four children, Joanne and Nicholas Yatrakis, Sloansville, NY, Stephen and Patricia Uniszkiewicz, Yorktown, VA, Katherine and Paul Nelson, Binghamton, NY, and Christine and Keith Kraemer, Sloansville, NY; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Nicholas, Stephen, Jonathan, Brian, Lauren, Morgan, and Jeremy; his sister, Helen Schneck and many nieces, nephews and friends. Leo was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later moved to Holbrook, Long Island, NY where he fulfilled his passion for raising and caring for many animals. He also enjoyed working in his garden. Leo worked at Irving Steel and retired from the Brooklyn Hospital as an Intake Supervisor in the Emergency Room after more than twenty years of service. He later moved to Cobleskill, NY where he served as Treasurer for the Schoharie County Council of Senior Citizens for five years. He was also past President of the Jefferson Seniors Club where he met many dear friends. He stayed active in helping the seniors of Schoharie County until his illness. The family will receive friends at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill from 1 to3 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Friday, October 24. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Church 138 Washington Ave. Cobleskill. Father Thomas F. Holmes will be the celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice Hope Foundation 327 West Main St. Suite 3 Cobleskill, NY 12043 or St. Vincent de Paul Church 138 Washington Ave. Cobleskill, NY.
