Leona Skinner Obituary

Leona M. Skinner, 91, of Duluth, Minn., died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in her home. She was born in Mankato on Dec. 13, 1912, to Rev. Howard and Edna Mitchell. Leona was a graduate of Hamline University with a degree in Library Science. Leona married Sidney J.G. Skinner July 12, 1941, in Eveleth. They resided and raised their family in the Lester Park neighborhood. She was an active longtime member of Lester Park United Methodist Church and its UMW and the Naomi Circle. Leona was also a member of the Lester Park Literary Club, Lakeside Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past Worthy Matron, Lakeside Keenagers and was part of the Portman senior lunch group. She loved reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting. Leona enjoyed her life, being a homemaker and her family. She truly lived life to the fullest. Her husband of 49 years, Sidney, preceded her in death. Leona is survived by her children, Sydna (Bill) Satterfield of Fla., Edna Dotson of Colo., Warren 'Buzz' (Margaret) and Don (Susan) both of Duluth; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and her many special friends. MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Lester Park United Methodist Church, 5400 E. Superior St., Duluth. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Memorials preferred to Lester Park United Methodist Church. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-624-5200.

I am so sorry to hear of Leona's death. I have so many fond memories of your mother (and father). I can still picture her directing our children's choir at LPUMC. How she enjoyed to sing! My condolences go out to the entire family.
