Leonard Congden Obituary
Born in Oneida on Nov. 25, 1950, he was the son of Leonard R. and Helen J. Buss Congden Sr.
A lifelong resident of the area, Lenny was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1970 and attended Morrisville Agriculture and Technical College.
Prior to his retirement in 2002, due to illness, Lenny had been the director of the single family housing program for the United States Department of Agriculture - Rural Development, formerly known as Farmer's Home Administration, where he was employed for 27 years. He had formerly been employed with the Oneida City Police Department as a records clerk.
Lenny enjoyed traveling and had a love for animals. He was very active with the men's gay pride bowling league and was an avid gardener. Lenny was of the Episcopalian faith.
Surviving are two sisters, Donna J. Herbs of Bouckville and Kimberly A. Lilly-Hartle and her husband Nathan of Vernon; one brother, Mark Congden of Florida; two step-sisters, Lynette Congden and Cheryl Congden, both of Florida; several nieces and nephews and close special friends, Patricia Pilon, Sharon Smith, Marge Regan, Mary Lou Nelson and William Miller. He was predeceased by one sister, Sharon M. Congden Scribner in 1995 and four brothers, Ronald D. Lilly in 1981, Stacey G. Milligan in 1964, Tracey D. Congden in 1958 and Ronald D. Congden in 1976.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida. Interment will take place in West Verona cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Contributions, in Lenny's memory, may be made to the SPCA, 5878 East Molloy Road, Syracuse, NY 13211. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.

Lenny had a big heart and was a kind soul. He had a quick wit and we laughed often and a lot.We could go months and months without talking and then pick up where we left off. The last time I saw him was at the Barber Shop and he was getting his famous "Flat-Top"... I am sad that we won't be able to pick up where we left off ever again. I was so shocked to hear about the passing of my friend Lenny . . . Tddybr. We were friends for many years since the early 1970s when we met at the strangest of all places. We became neighbors and friends, and he will be remembered fondly in my heart for all my life. Our heartfelt condolences to Lenny's family and friends. Lenny was a GREAT, close friend to our sister Glenda Rosetta before she passed away and she cherished their friendship. We were so lucky to have known Lenny and his caring support to our sister will never be forgotten. It is so uncanny that Lenny has passed on the anniversary date of Glenda's passing.
