I was saddened to read of Roy's passing and that prompted memories of our high school days. We were often assigned to the same classes, but perhaps the most memorable time together was the day Roy and I attended the stock car races with our dates only to return home with a damaged grill on my dad's new car. We were all having so much fun that none of us realized the car started rolling into the bumperless car in front of us while stopped for a train at a railroad crossing. Roy, concerned that my dad might take my driving privileges away because of the accident, offered to explain to my dad what actually happened since he didn't think my dad would believe me. That was a sign of friendship I have never forgotten. Although I have spoken with Roy by phone encouraging him to attend our Washburn High School reunions, I do not recall seeing him since 1951 which is regrettable. To his family I extend my sincerest sympathy.
