Leslie NORBY Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jan. 26 to Jan. 30, 2015.
NORBY, Leslie Raymond
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Raymond Norby (Les) of Dalmeny, SK. After a valiant fight, he passed away on January 24, 2015 peacefully with family by his side. He celebrated his 85th birthday just a few short weeks ago. Les was born to Jacob and Vera Norby in Rossland, B.C. on December 30, 1929 and was one of seven children. In 1931 Les and family moved to a farm 32 km north of Battleford, SK. He attended school in the district and worked various jobs until his decision to join Canada's military in 1950. After basic training he was sent to Calgary to be a part of PPCLI Air Borne Battalion. In September of 1951, Les was deployed for active service to Korea. Les completed his 12 month tour of duty in October 1952 and further completed 2 more 2-year terms ending in Germany. Upon leaving the military, Les drove truck for 4 years and moved on to residential and commercial carpentry, which he did for the rest of his career. During Les' earlier years, Les was blessed with 3 children, Petra Reynolds, Marlene Blyan and Jens Norby. In 1988 he met Florence and her family in Saskatoon. Les and Florence were married September 23, 1989. During their 25 years of wonderful marriage, they were able to enjoy dancing, golfing, gardening as well as time with family and friends. In 2006, Les and Florence moved to Dalmeny, SK and enjoyed retirement in the new community. While there, Les enjoyed walks around town, having coffee and many games of pool with his amazing new found friends. Left to mourn is his beloved wife Florence, Les' children: Petra Reynolds (Wes), Marlene Blyan (Frank), Jens Norby (Penny) and stepchildren: Blair Cole (Joan), Lana Bueckert (Doug) and Terri Edwards (Jeff); grandchildren: Matthew, Greg, Kyler, Zach, Josh, Francine, Olivia, Amanda and Eli plus 10 great-grandchildren and Tootsie their cat. Also left to mourn are his sisters Esther and Ellen and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Les was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Vera, Glen Norby (brother), Vern Norby (brother), Thelma (sister-in-law), June Pashovitz (sister), Alex Pashovitz (brother-in-law), Abe Norby (brother), June (sister-in-law). He was also predeceased by his first wife Doris. A special thank you to the Care Home nurses for their love and compassion they gave Les while under their care, the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital and to the Cancer Clinic at RUH. Donations in Les' memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul's Hospital (1702 20th St West, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9) A Celebration of Les' Life will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dalmeny Community Church (121 4th Street, Dalmeny, SK) with reception to follow. I love and respect you Grandpa Les. The world is a better place for you having been in it. I am grateful for the times we had. Thank you. One of my favourite wall pictures is one that you took of a mountain goat. I am planning a trip to Banff this year. My trip itinerary includes taking my own picture of a mountain goat to hang with the picture you took. Hvil I Fred Grandpa Les.
To Florence: Hope all is well with you. : )
