She was one of the first neighbors to welcome us into the neighborhood. I valued her input, feedback and the real way she commentated on the world around her. The few times I stepped into her home I felt honored and trusted. I remember her expressing gratitude and love for her family. I never heard her complain regarding her illness and I thought of her as being so strong. I loved her and I miss her.

Hi Family. I just got a reminder on my computer about this Legacy of Lettie. I am still in awe about her passing. the family connection is so broken up without her to connect the pieces. But this year, I hope will be different because I am going to reach out to my Pittsburgh, Maryland, etc family and reconnect the pieces. Why, because that is what Lettie would have wanted. I loved her and I miss her so much as I am sure that you all do. May God continue to bless each and everyone of you and I hope to see you all soon.

To the Walls Family, My heart, My soul goes out to you. Lettie was more than just our cousin, she was our truly beloved sister. It seems like she was always making sure we were okay but never telling us that she was slowly slipping away from us. We didn't find out about her death until I read it in the monthly Newsletter and my heart stopped and had to tell the rest of the family. The pain will always be there but I remember the last time we talked to Lettie, she stated that she joined a church and she was so happy about that and I was happy for her. I know that God is happy to have a Gem with him but I wish he would have waited until the little West Virginians said goodbye to their cousin and BFF. Mommy and Maude will keep you laughing because they have a lot of funny stories to tell you. Lettie, We will miss you and life will not be the same ever. Sadly missed by Wendy, Charlotte, Carolyn (Skeeter) and Turk.

Reality is setting in for me. I heard sirens yesterday and I dialed to call you, only to realize that you wouldn't answer. As I sit at work, I think to call you to check on you, only to realize I would just get your voicemail. I have the memories of those priceless conversations that we shared. Oh the memories......

It's only been a week and I'm still in routine in wanting to call you from work to check on you. You did not complain when I would wake you up at times, you'd just at times hold the phone til you dozed back off. Not sure who is gonna chill a Powerade or bottled water for Quay before her cheerleading practice. There are just alot unknown things in my mind. Just not sure what to do or how to go about doing what I need to do. I am sure I will figure it out sooner than later.........

My love & Prayers go out to the entire Walls Family. I remember the last time I talk to Lettie & it was at the home going for her niece. We were going to stay in touch but as things go that didn't happen for so many reasons.I never thought that would be the last time I would see her or talk to her. I will always cherish the memories of the two of us coming home from a Garfieldettes softball game. No matter if we won or loss there was always something to talk about. She played first base & I was right field so many good good memories.
God Bless the Walls family!

Aunt Lettie,
My heart is heavy having to write in your book. I know I am being selfish because I want you to still be here, but it makes me feel better knowing you are in a better place. You endured more than your share and each time you kept going. You were supposed to do it this time, too.
There is nothing like an Auntie's love and I am glad that I got to experience such a thing. You might not be here in the physical sense, but you forever live in my heart and that is something no one can take away from me. You taught me so much and I am thankful for all that you have done for me and my children. Take care of your Sweetheart, I know you wouldn't have it any other way. Keep an eye on your Sweetie as she continues to grow into an awesome lady, like yourself.
Love and Miss You Much

Mrs. Walls, or Ms. Lettie, as I often called her, was a neighbor who I really loved. I often wanted to stop by for visits but felt unsure, not wanting to cause her to have to come down her steps inside, or to put her out physically, knowing that her heart was weak. That being said, I enjoyed the times when she was outside, or her door was open and I could stop over to see her for a minute. She might have been changing the bulbs in her driveway lights, or watering or weeding her potted rosebushes on the sidewalk out front, or coming from her Jeep, on her way into the house.
In the moments I had with Ms. Lettie her smile always warmed me. I felt that she spoke her mind honestly and I appreciated it that she didn't hold back her thoughts. I felt that she was exceedingly gracious with us - the newcomers across the street - with all of our children and with our cats who loved her yard and pond and fish. She would ask me how we were, and of our kids she'd say, "I don't know how you do it." I knew that she'd raised kids too and grown up in a house full. She helped me know that my parenting job was important and that she considered it a significant task.
I felt good around Ms. Lettie. She was a presence of stability on our block. Her consistent sense of responsibility, with the help of her family, was a model for us as neighbors. In the winter her walkway was always cleared off; on garbage days she was the one who knew when to put out the recyclables. Her property was immaculate.
She and I talked on several occasions about how she acquired the land next to her house and year by year completed projects: the driveway, the sidesteps, the pond and other things. Her dedication made our block a more beautiful place.
She encouraged and inspired me to take our property and to work at bettering it slowly and steadily as she had. Whenever I work on our house I'll think of her hard work. When the summer pears grow on our pear tree I'll think of how she liked her pears green and hard.
I'll always remember how she spoke proudly of her family. She expressed such thanks for them and said how good they were to her. I could see it too! She had her family at her house so often and it was clear to me that they took such good care of her. Through them I was reminded of the scriptural commandment, "Honor your (father and) mother."
I am exceedingly thankful for my neighbor, Mrs. Walls. I felt welcomed and loved by her. I will miss her so much, but I will treasure her memory always!
