Lewis Gray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2025.
Lewis (Lew) Gray, 88, of Adairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home September 26, 2025, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Born September 27, 1936, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Lewis Willard and Margaret Regina Gray (Miller), Lew attended Catholic Central High School and Iowa State University before serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he met and married his wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy Joyce Hoeft.

Lew enjoyed a distinguished 26-year career with IBM, starting in Des Moines and holding leadership and executive roles across the country, including Vice President of Sales and President of both the NMD and SWMD Divisions. Following retirement from IBM as a Corporate Officer, he served on several corporate boards and traveled extensively with Nancy, cherishing time with friends, family, and numerous reunions. One of his treasured memories late in life was a reunion in Ottumwa with his High School classmates.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; son Michael (Cindy); daughter Elizabeth Lewis (Brian); grandchildren Danielle Fowler (Jordan), Olivia Jedrzejak (Tyler), and James Lewis; and sister Regina Garvey (Brian). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rose Marie Schwab.

Lew will be remembered for his devotion to family, his leadership, and his love of travel and friendships.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers that gave Lewis such tremendous care and support. Thank you, Njeri, Esther, Joan, Perry, Holly and granddaughter Danielle.
