Lewis Robinson, III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2025.
Lewis S. Robinson, III, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, and adventurer, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 16, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Lewis lived a full and vibrant life that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

A graduate of Woodberry Forest School, Lewis pursued higher education at Tulane University, earning a Bachelor's degree in History and English. He later attended Centenary College of Louisiana, where he studied Business Management, laying the groundwork for a career that spanned multiple industries.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis S. Robinson, Jr. and Jean Walker Robinson, and his grandson, Connor McKnight. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Linda Robinson, affectionately known as "Dumplin and Mama Linda". Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and adventure.

He is also survived by his children: David Robinson; Joye and Mike Qualls; Elisa and Ken McKnight; Will Robinson; and Stephan and Kristen Robinson. His brothers, Randy and Wendy Robinson and Steve and Sami Robinson, as well as his cousins Connie Robinson Fielder-Norton, Henry Clay Walker, IV, and Catherine Fenci Oliver also cherish his memory. Lewis was a proud grandfather to Mackenzie and Kenton Cozart (great-grandson Rayland Cozart); Keaton Qualls and Luke Qualls; Evan McKnight and Anneliese McKnight; Sean Carson and Skai Robinson; Sophia Robinson; Henry Robinson; Sam Robinson; and Isabella Robinson.

Lewis had a larger-than-life personality that could light up any room. Strong-willed and vivacious, he lived with an unapologetic energy and wasn't afraid to speak his mind-sometimes with a few choice curse words to drive the point home. Crazy, loud, and full of life, he made every moment an event and every gathering unforgettable. His strong opinions were matched only by his love for his family and his unwavering dedication to his pursuits.

Although Lewis's deep love for his family was undeniable, he didn't always show it in traditional ways. His affection sometimes came through in his larger-than-life gestures, his unrelenting work ethic, and his commitment to providing memorable experiences for those he held dear. Beneath his bold exterior, his family knew how deeply he cared, even if he didn't always express it in words.

A lifelong entrepreneur, Lewis's business ventures spanned the oil and gas industry, music, banking, and real estate. Among his proudest accomplishments was the development of The Grizzly Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana. His professional pursuits were matched by his passion for outdoor activities, including fly-fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and other winter sports.

Lewis's love for fly-fishing created memorable moments, including trips with President Jimmy Carter and President George H.W. Bush as well as with his sons and son-in-law's. He also had close ties and friendship with the Hosokawa family from Japan. He cherished family vacations to the Florida Keys and Thanksgiving celebrations that brought joy to his growing family, creating a legacy of laughter and love. Despite his many accomplishments, Lewis's greatest pride was his family and his faith.

Over the years, Lewis and Linda made homes in Dallas, Texas; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; West Yellowstone, Montana; Rockport, Texas; and Austin, Texas.

In his later years, Lewis found his latest church home at Lake Travis United Methodist Church, where he built meaningful friendships with his pastors and church family. In previous churches, he always had close ties with his pastors, including Pastor Tom Letts, with whom he shared many fly-fishing adventures.

Lewis continued to work passionately in his office, at his computer and on the phone until the final weeks of his life. His dedication to working his deals, an unyielding love for Linda, and a love for his children and grandchildren were all close to his heart.

The family will honor Lewis's life with a Celebration of Life at Lake Travis United Methodist Church (1502 Ranch Road 620 N, Lakeway, TX 78734) on Saturday

March 1st, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Hospice Austin's Christopher House (hospiceaustin.org), Lake Travis United Methodist Church (www.ltumc.org/give) or The Grizzly Discovery Center (www.grizzlydiscoveryctr.org/donate).

Lewis S. Robinson, III, was a man of passion, grit, and unmatched energy. He lived life with the volume turned all the way up, leaving those around him with memories as unforgettable as he was. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered. We love you Papa Lew!

He was a wonderful mentor in helping a small group of entrepreneurs with their vision for a new business launch. His frequent and seasoned advice was invaluable to us in our efforts.

Lewis and my husband, Peter, had so many long conversations I can hear Lewis´s voice still. Those conversations and the camaraderie of such an outspoken man will be missed. He spoke of each of his family members with such love and was deeply devoted and committed. I send my love and prayers and hope that your wonderful memories and the loving arms of our precious Lord and Savior will grant you peace.
