Lewis Willey Obituary

Lewis E. Willey&bb&Lewis E. Willey, beloved husband of Betty Sehlke-Willey, died December 26, 2000 of cancer caused by exposure to radiation. He was among the first Army Air Corp troops that went into Japan after the atomic bomb was exploded. He joined the Army in 1942 and was involved in the fighting through the Philippines and Okinawa. He retired from the service 22 years later and went to work for the Boeing Company. He retired from there March 1, 1990.&pe&He was born June 27, 1922. His family had a farm near Castle Rock, Wash. &pe&He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann and his sons, Steven and Glen.&pe&He is survived by his wife, Betty Sehlke-Willey; sons, Dale and Dean; daughters, Janet and Caroline; grand and great grandchildren. Also by his sister, Vivienne Williams and brother, Carl Willey. He was a foster father to many children and he felt honored that some of his foster children named their sons after him. He was a true father to his step children, Sandra, Bob, and Jerry Sehlke and Laura Whitaker and they respected and adored him.&pe&A special thanks to Dr. Katherine Ruffner at the VA Hospital and to Dr. Mark Coughendur of Everett and to the staff of the 7th floor at the Colby Campus Hospital for the kind care they gave Lewis.&pe&His ashes will be intered in Yakima, Wash. June 27, 2001. A time of remembrance of his life will be on Sunday, January 31 at the family home, 22431 48th Ave. NW, Stanwood, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Anyone wishing to join us are welcome.
