Dr. Gilka will forever be a legend she helped me and countless others when no one else could

Dr Gilka was a Godsend when our family was struck with environmental illness due to urea-formaldehyde foam insulation, in the late 1970's. She continued to care for us, and for me until her retirement in 2005. She was a faithful, loving daughter of the Church and upheld traditional teachings on morality and family life. I last saw her when we appeared before City Council to fight the cosmetic use of pesticides. Rest in peace.

I was a patient of Dr. Gilka for many, many years and when David and I married and he came to Canada, Dr. Gilka looked after us both amazingly. She was a doctor 'par excellence'. I remember her nurse, Nancy saying to me that "Dr. Gilka doctors the way medicine is meant to be practised!" And I fully agree. I tried to reach Dr. Gilka on Facebook but did not succeed! I went to Robertson House trying to see her but she had left. She introduced me to Andrei Vakar, RMT many years ago which has been such a blessing! Thank you Dr. Gilka 'from the heart'! Dr Gilka was not only greatly skilled in medicine but also compassionate and caring, a role model to all doctors. My family was so fortunate to have had her as our family physician. Thank you, Dr Gilka.

Dr. Gilka was a gift to the medical profession. I found her by word of mouth in 1979 while searching for help for my young son who had a complex disability. She gave us hope and direction - which ultimately led him to having an incredibly better quality of life than he would have had without her guidance and knowledge. She passes through my thoughts often. I will always be grateful for her dedication, inspiration and commitment to better health and better outcomes for
her patients. We were privileged to have
had her for a physician.

Our condolences to the family - Dr. Gilka first treated Edward back in 1978, and prompted Valerie to start the Ottawa Wellness Alternative Health Clinic in 2002 - we honour her life time dedication to the health of her clientele. With blessings - Valerie Thornburg and Ed Williams.
