Lillian Wetzel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2013.
Lillian Rosealee (Schadel) Wetzel, 96, of Middletown went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2013. She passed away at Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg where she had recently been a patient.
Lillian was born in Rough and Ready (Klingerstown R.D.), Schuylkill Co., PA on April 15, 1916. Her husband was Woodrow ("Woody") W. Wetzel, of Pitman, PA, who worked at and retired from Bethlehem Steel in Steelton, PA.
She was preceded in death by her father Francis O. Schadel, and her mother Katie R. Houck Schadel, both of Rough and Ready, PA, her step-mother Mary M. (Starr) Stiely Schadel, sisters Mazie Clark and Bessie Bowman, and step-brothers Lawrence, John, and Wayne Stiely.
Lillian is survived by her daughter Geraldine R. Smith and son-in-law Jack D. Smith of Greenwood, Delaware, granddaughter Cindy Stein and husband Robert Stein, great-grandchildren Sean and Megan Stein of Bel Air, MD, and nieces and nephews. Gladys Messick of Middletown was her long-time neighbor and friend.
Lillian attended the Mount Calvary Church in Elizabethtown, PA. She was a member of the church's women's organization the HIHOs (Happiness is Helping Others). She was a member of the Lunch Bunch of Lower Swatara and the Golden Ages of Hummelstown of the Church of God in Enhaut. Lillian was also a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge.
Lillian was born and grew up on a farm in rural Rough and Ready, PA. She worked hard throughout her life. Some jobs she had were farmer's daughter, store keeper, midwife for 7 out of 9 of her sister Mazie's children, van driver for local special needs children, and homemaker. Lillian loved driving, getting her nails and hair done, and grocery shopping.
Lillian, or "Mom-Mom", as her family affectionately called her, had a great sense of humor and love for her family. The family joke was that her favorite word was "whatever", especially when she didn't want to answer a question.
The family gives their deepest appreciation to Comfort Keepers caregivers Carol, Connie, Birdie, Thelma, Ray, Kerrie, and Cindy, and the staff at Colonial Park Care Center of Harrisburg for their extraordinary care of Lillian. They also thank friends and family for their support throughout the years.
Funeral Services will be held at Knight Funeral Home at 31 2nd St., Highspire, PA on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. The viewing will be from 11-12:30, with the funeral service at 12:30. Pastor Richard Vaughn from Mount Calvary Church of Elizabethtown will be officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4855 Londonderry Rd., Harrisburg. www.pennlive.com/obits
