Lillie "Lily" Centeno Moke Alfonsin

Lillie "Lily" Centeno Moke Alfonsín, born Thursday, January 12, 1928, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 29, 2020. She was 92 years old. A lifelong San Antonian, Lily was loved by her eight children, extended family, friends, and the community. Despite her large family, Lily always made time for everyone and provided support and love. One of the most important things in Lily's life was working alongside her parents and brothers, and she took great pride in her family's business. They opened their first grocery store on Rivas Street that was to be the first step in establishing Centeno Markets - the largest independent grocery store chain in San Antonio at one time - bringing both financial security and peace of mind to many households in the Hispanic community. Working in the family business from a very young age helped Lily develop into a nurturing and empathetic human being. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School located in Monticello Park and attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas. Lily was a loving mother and her role as "Mamita" was the most important thing to her. This is where Lily drew her strength and left her legacy. Lily was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Abad Alfonsín, Sr.; her parents, José "Joe" and Jesusa Lopez Centeno; her two daughters, Priscilla and Lilita Moke, their father, Mike Moke; her grandchildren, Angela and Joseph Alfonsín; and her brothers, Ignacio, Joe Jr. and Eloy Centeno. Lily is survived by her two daughters, Michelle and Juliette Moke; her three sons, José , Horacio, and Carlos Alfonsín; her stepson, Jorge; her daughter-in-laws, Cookie, Theresa, and Lorene; her grandchildren, Michael Moke, Jesusita, Enrique Jr., William, Roman, Edmond, Jacqueline, Meredith, Kari, Cynthia, and Yessica; and great-grandson, Robert Moke. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 5:30 PM, on Monday, March 9, 2020.
