Dearest Joe, Enza, Cassandra, Benito, Cathy, Danny, Louis and Amanda,
We thank you for welcoming us into your family with open arms and sharing your dear Mom and sweet Nonna Lina. We spent so very many joyous occasions together. It pains me not to be by your side to say "au revoir" this week. Know that even through this distance that separates us, I feel your deep loss and grief. We must remember that one day we will all sit down again together and she will serve up her delicious "spicy" (sopressata), lasagna, marinated veggies and pastries that she used to fix us and she will tell us funny stories. I choose to keep in mind the strong, vivacious woman she was. That's who she wanted to be at all times. It must have been so very hard for her to suffer this debilitating disease. I was not prepared to say good-bye this quickly. I look forward to seeing you all to hug you tight, share some tears and hopefully leave one another with a smile because we know she is in a good place and at peace.
