A memorial service for Linda Lizabeth DeWitt will be held on Saturday, October 7 from 2 pm to 4 pm at 8901 Peck Ave., Chickaloon Landing (Commons Area) in Anchorage, Alaska.

Linda Lizbeth DeWitt left the earth on August 25, 2023. She was born in Wrangell, Alaska May 24, 1952 to John and Marian (Paul) DeWitt.

Linda lived a challenging courageous life with Lupus and was not held back by her illness. She graduated Wrangell High School and continued her education at Sheldon Jackson College, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska Pacific University and studied Computer Information Science at University of Alaska Anchorage. Linda was a tribal member of Kaach.adi, Xixch'Hit of Shtax' Heen Kwan. Her Tlingit name is Ajit.

Linda embraced her Tlingit culture. She joined the Noow Tlein Dance Group while living in Sitka to work at SEARHC in computer systems. She converted to Russian Orthodox while living in Sitka. She accepted work as Tribal Liaison Director with the Alaska Army National Guard. She helped start up the Tlingit and Haida Dancers of Anchorage. Linda was part of the founding group to bring about the Alaska Native Heritage Center. She was also active in the Alaska Native Sisterhood.

Linda is survived by her daughter Tamaree Kawagley Speaks, her son-in-law Troy and grandson Derrick Speaks, sister Cynthia DeWitt, and brother Pete Grant; cousins Beverly Jeanette Newland, Joaqlin Estus, Jean Gamache, Stanley Estus, Eleanor Dailey, Crystal Dailey, Glen Dailey, and Kelley Dailey, nephews Travis Grant and nieces Jaime Miller and Meda DeWitt. Linda is preceded in death by her parents John and Marion (Paul) DeWitt, grandparents Louis and Matilda (Jones) Paul, aunts Nana Estus and Gladys (Dailey) Burkhart, uncles Louis and Richard Paul, brothers Miles and Michael DeWitt and nephew Tylon Grant. She was a descendent of Charlie Jones, Chief Shakes and his wife Susie Billie Jones.

Linda chose to be cremated and her ashes will be buried with her mother Marian DeWitt at the Wrangell Cemetery, the date to be determined.
