Linda Howell Mathis, 88, of Hopewell went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2017. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas Clyde and Viola Vann Howell; step father, Herbert Pete Saunders and her beloved husband of over 60 years, Marvin L. Mathis. Linda is survived by her sons, Gary Mathis (Pat) and Keith Mathis (Sherry); her daughter, Betsy Respess (Eddie); granddaughters, Nicole, Dana, Jacquelynn ; grandsons, Todd and Eddie Jr.; 3 great grandchildren; special family members, Phyllis and Curly and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Linda was lifetime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 3512 Virginia Street in Hopewell. Her funeral ceremony will follow in the church at 11:00 a.m. Final rest will conclude in Appomattox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society (cancer.org/givehope) in Linda's memory.
