Linda Rider Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 1, 2016.
Linda McCarthy Rider

Chesapeake - Linda passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at home with her family by her bedside after a difficult struggle with cancer. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles H. and Madeline S. McCarthy on June 27, 1949 and spent her childhood in Massapequa, Long Island. Linda fulfilled her calling as a teacher of young children in Chesapeake public and private schools. Her legacy remains the many hearts touched over the years by the loving way she encouraged students to always do their best. Linda's classroom was a place where children succeeded both in learning and in life.

Linda is survived by her husband of 42 years, James H. Rider; their two children, son James C. Rider and wife Jennifer, and daughter Katherine Rider Cullipher and husband Bobby; and five grandsons, Jason and Jacob Rollins, Sean and Jonathon Rider, and Carson Cullipher. She is also survived by her brother, Charles H. McCarthy, Jr. of Patchogue, NY and his family. Linda cherished her roles as wife, mother, Nana, sister, teacher, and friend. Her kind and gentle heart was truly a gift to all she met and she will be sadly missed by those who were privileged to have known her.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 4, at Deep Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Plasters officiating. Linda loved flowers, but the family suggests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of one's choosing. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hdoliver.com.

Mrs. Rider was my daughter Ginni's second grade teacher. She had a way with her students that seemed to bring out their best- both academically and behaviour wise. She became a treasured person to our whole family. Her kind heart and love for her students leaves behind a strong legacy and precious memories. Love you Mrs. Rider,

I had the pleasure of meeting the Riders when I taught Katie at DCHS and maintained a special relationship with them over the years. I will forever cherish fond memories of lunch dates and quesadillas poolside with Mrs. Rider when my boys were young, Christmas shopping trips at MacArthur Center for Lindt truffles, and many shared Sunday mornings at DCUMC. I will dearly miss Mrs. Rider's kind heart and quick wit, and will treasure the last time I saw her when I met baby Carson. May her legacy shine through you all.. Katie, Jamey, and Mr. Rider...and through her grandsons whom she adored. Mrs. Rider it was a pleasure knowing you.
With love,
"Karen" Niblo
